God Cares About Your Emotions More Than Your Ability to “Be Spiritual”

If you’re struggling this morning and trying to get a grip, it’s OK for you to just be real with your Papa. God cares about your emotions more than He cares about your ability to fake it and “be spiritual.” Enjoy this piece from the archives that I’ve expanded on this morning. – Jamie

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2 NKJV

I sat down with the Lord this morning and, even though I felt like I needed to read my Bible, I just couldn’t… yet. I began to just pour out my heart to the Lord about some emotional things I’ve been dealing with lately.

I was very, very honest and open with Him. I could sense Him loving on me. He was listening, not condemning me. He made me with emotions and He cares about them.

When I was done, I saw a mental picture of Him as my Daddy, pulling me–His little girl–up onto His lap and snuggling me against His chest. I heard Him thank me for opening up to Him about these things.

I told Him that I don’t usually talk about these things in prayer because I feel like I have more serious things that I should be praying about: my workday, my family, my church, my country, etc. I told Him I felt like these are more important, more spiritual things.

You know what God said? He said:

I am far more concerned about your emotional health than I am about your ‘ability to be spiritual.'”

That really blessed me, but then I started to reason it away.

I said: “Because then You can use me to reach others,” and He stopped me right away.

He said:

No. It’s just because I love you.”

Wow. Think about that for awhile. He feels the same way about you.

God cares about what’s going on inside you. He cares about your emotional health and wholeness more than He does your “ability to be spiritual.” Why? Just because He loves you.

So what are you struggling with today?

Would you sit down with God and just be real with Him? Nothing you say is going to shock Him. He knows it all already. Nothing you say is going to make Him love you any less.

God loves you 100% right now, and He always will. He wants you to know that, and He wants to get life-on-life with you.  He wants to hear about your tears. He wants to hear about your heartache. He wants to hear about whatever has been worrying you or bothering you. He wants you to tell Him all about it, and He wants to talk with you about it out of His Word and through His sweet whispers of love.

God cares about your emotions. He really cares about how you’re feeling. That doesn’t mean you get a license to live by your emotions, but it does mean you have a loving Father who is all ears, and all love, no matter what you’re going through. He wants to love on you and make it better.

So would you take off the mask with God today? Would you tell Him all that’s on your mind, and let Him comfort you?
