Radical Prayer #9: Divine Rivers in Desolate HeightsSometimes you can get where you want to go, only to find that something happened to the river of anointing that brought you there. That’s what today’s radical prayer is about.

It’s because, sometimes, the journey can wear you out, rendering you dry and weary.

Things look great from the outside; others envy your achievements or responsibilities. But you, grateful as you may be for your success, simply crave the River:

  • The River of the Holy Spirit.
  • The River of His Presence.
  • The River of Jesus.
  • Those times that make you cry and then whisper as He touches you deep in your spirit.

No matter where success may take you, your spirit and soul crave only one thing: Him.

And although you’re grateful—you really are—sometimes your hunger far surpasses your gratefulness.

It shouldn’t, and you know it shouldn’t. But all you can think is that you are thirsty for Jesus. You want more. You cannot survive on yesterday’s Presence. You are  desperately in need of flowing in that river.

All you want is that intimacy with Him back:

  • to feel His Presence and power flowing through you again;
  • to really feel and sense that intimate connection with Him;
  • to dwell in the secret place of His glory and abide under the shadow of His wings again;
  • to revert from being distracted with things, responsibilities, and people to being obsessed again with the only Person who matters: Jesus Christ, Father God, and the precious Holy Spirit.

If that describes you, the Lord has a promise for you today.

It’s found in Isaiah 41:17-18, and it says:

Start-quoteThe poor and needy seek water, but there is none, their tongues fail for thirst. I, the Lord, will hear them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.”

Oh, yes. Even high, enviable heights can be desolate, and the prettiest of valleys can still be dry.

What does this mean to you?

Are you in a beautiful, enviable place in your life right now—but you feel dry and discouraged? Despite your outward success, are you longing to return to the river of the Holy Spirit and His refreshing?

If that describes you, God wants to flow through you again. Right now, right here, today.

He wants to open rivers for you in your desolate heights. He wants to water your body, soul, and spirit. He wants to make you alive on the inside again.

Papa God wants to refresh and restore your spirit. He wants to bring you into a deeper intimacy with Him than you’ve ever had, right in the elevated place where He has put you.

He knows you can’t handle where you are on your own.

You didn’t get there alone, and you can’t stay there alone. You didn’t climb the heights; He carried you to the heights.

And He sees how weary and dry you are. But He wants to refill you with His anointing, with His Spirit, with His Presence, with His refreshing, replenishing, rejuvenating flow.

He wants to fill you with joy again. He wants to pull your focus back to Him and help you rest again in the fact that you’re just a little boy or a little girl with a Big Papa.

Recommended resource: When I feel worn out and burned out, the Lord ministers to me through prophetic worship. Listening to the Word of the Lord sung over you, and letting His Spirit soak in, restores those rivers of anointing in your life. One of my favorite albums to listen to right now is Jon Thurlow’s Stand in Awe. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for hours lately. Every song on it is anointed, and God keeps ministering to me in special ways as I listen. You can download a copy instantly on Amazon here.

Are you ready to pray a radical prayer, and ask Him to open His rivers in the desolate heights of your life right now?

Pray this prayer with me, out loud:

Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for sending me this promise right now, right on time. You know how I feel and how dry I am, but I believe You have sent me this word to heal me.

So Father, I ask right now that You would perform every bit of Your promise in my life, right now, this very moment. Open rivers in the heights of my life again. Open fountains for me in the midst of the green, verdant valleys.

Give me a heart of worship again. Give me a heart that seeks You, and You only, Lord. Help me to revel and delight in Your Presence more than I ever have before.

Father, You have blessed my life and placed me where I am, and I’m thankful. Thank You for being so good to me. But Father, YOU are the One my soul craves. Only You can satisfy.

So Father, I’m asking You to bring me back into intimacy with You—into more intimacy with You than I have ever known. Breathe on me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Consume me with Yourself. Oh Holy Spirit, come from the four winds and breathe on me again, that I may live life to the full, in abundance, and until it overflows.

Father God, in Jesus’ name, please fill me with Your joy again. Fill me with Your anointing and power again. Let me simply host Your Presence and care about nothing more than You, Lord.

Jesus, be the Center of my life again. Glorify Your Own name in me. Sit on me, fill me, and carry me. Sweep me away into the river of Your glory and Your Spirit. Help me just to rest and be one with you in Jesus again; to abide in Jesus, seek You first and Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. And as I do, I know that all these things shall be added to me.

Thank You, Father. Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for Your promise today. Thank You for opening rivers in desolate heights for me. Thank You for Your awesome, amazing work in my life.

But Father, thank You for allowing me to hunger and thirst for You. Even though You have blessed me, I value You more than the stuff. YOU, and You alone, are Life to me. You are my Everything. Thank You for allowing me to realize this.

Thank You, Father, for filling me up with Your river of living water again. Thank You for the times of refreshing that are coming from Your Presence right now. I receive Your replenishing, rejuvenating river right now in my body, soul, and spirit.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

    This is a great word, if He opens doors no one can shut, then He can make a green, verdant valley. ( You are prolific. ) He can make the desert bloom. It sounds good!

    1. Amen! I was feeling super-dry recently, just before Christmas, despite having people telling me they thought I should be thrilled with the good things that had been happening. The Lord took me to this promise, and it meant soooo much to me! I felt like those rivers and waterfalls started falling on me as I read, renewing and refreshing me! Hallelujah–the Holy Spirit is a River and He never stops flowing!
      Thanks so much for reading, Rebecca! Hope you’re having an awesome day today. 🙂

    2. This is really great in that it reminded me that i may have the world but all is nothing IF he is not with me and by my side. the only Joy one get’s get to enjoy and cherrish is his presence and the feeling of his touch.

      Very good indeed and rejuvinating at the same time!

  2. Praise God…..He is an on time God! Thank you Sister for being a willing vessel to be used by God. Thank you for letting God use your heart.. I was seeking God to restore my intimacy with Him, to allow His word to fill me like a floodgate and then I read the word of God from you and I knew he heard my prayers. The prayers of the righteous avail much. Bless you my Sister

    1. Amen. Yes, He did hear your prayers. I felt exactly the same way when I read this promise in Isaiah a few weeks ago. He used it to restore my soul. I pray He would continue to bring these verses to your remembrance and minister to you as He does. 🙂

  3. This was a right on time prayer for me, I’m hungering and thirsting for more of Him. I would give any and everything to just have intimacy with Him??

    1. He sees that hunger and will honor it, Rita. He loves that He is your first desire. Jeremiah 29:13: You will seek Him and find Him when you seek Him with all your heart. 🙂

  4. I love your practical sounding prayers. I have an unjust situation where somebody wants to defraud us of a lot of money and I’m trusting for God’s intervention.

    Would you pray with me?

    Lilo

  5. This is so beautiful and refreshing, the word I needed.
