Who is the Holy Spirit of might?

Isaiah 11:1-2 gives us our first glimpse of the sevenfold Holy Spirit:

    Start-quote

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

The word “might” in this passage literally means powerful, strong, and valiant. It is used to describe a proven warrior. It is the same word used to describe the Lord in Psalm 24:7-8:

    Start-quote

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”

This same word “might” is also used to describe David’s mighty men–the bad, bad dudes who accomplished amazing feats of war.

For example, check out what they did in 2 Samuel 23:8-12:

    Start-quote

These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite, because he had killed eight hundred men at one time.

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated. He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder.

And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines. But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory” (2 Samuel 23:8-12).

These guys were amazing. I definitely would not have wanted to meet them anywhere if I had been their enemy. The Spirit of might rested on them, and they got things done.

But David’s mighty men were still men, and they had to get their power from a Source. That source was the Holy Spirit.

Let us never forget that we can do nothing without the help of the Holy Spirit. When we gave our lives to Christ, we died and Jesus came to live inside us. The life that we now live, we live in Christ Jesus alone. And God’s Word says that things get done “‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6b).

So we need the Holy Spirit of might. We need the Holy Spirit, the Mighty One of Israel (Isaiah 1:24). He is filled with valor, and His ability to win in battle is proven. He IS the Victor … 100% of the time. He has never lost a battle He has taken on, and He never will.

What does this mean to you? Two things:

    1. First, if God is for you, nobody can defeat you because nobody can defeat HIM.

And God IS for you. The Holy Spirit IS for you. He’s your Helper, your Advocate; He’s on your side. Romans 8:31-39 tells us:

    Start-quote

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:

    “For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So what kind of battle are you facing today?

No matter what you are facing, the Holy Spirit of might wants to help you, defend you, and “more than conquer” your enemies for you. For example:

    • Are you struggling with physical weakness? The Spirit of might can and will fight for you, strengthen your physical body, and help you do what you need to do with victory and power.
    • Are you fighting against injustice? The Holy Spirit of might, your Advocate, will go to war on your behalf today and obliterate the work of the devil. Just ask Him!
    • Are you struggling to persevere in the middle of difficulty? The Holy Spirit of Jesus, the Lion of Judah, wants to roar through your body, soul, and spirit RIGHT NOW and give you new courage, hope, power, and MIGHT.

I don’t know what kind of battle you’re facing today, but you are not alone. The Holy Spirit is with you; and if you’ll ask Him, He will fight for you. He will show off His power, His strength, and His valor on your behalf. That’s who He is, and it’s what He does … and He’s excellent at His job!

    2. It means that you can do greater works than you ever dreamed, if you’ll put a demand on the Holy Spirit in faith.

I doubt that Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, David’s first mighty man, had ever practiced killing 800 men at one time in battle. But the day came when he needed to do just that, and considering he was in David’s company of worshippers, I think it’s pretty much guaranteed that he stood there, called on the name of the Lord, and put his hand to the sword. The Holy Spirit came through for him.

However, the Holy Spirit did not yet dwell inside people as their constant, irrevocable Companion at that time. Jesus had not yet been crucified, so the Holy Spirit had not yet been given. Events like that were the exception, not the norm.

But if you have given your life to Jesus Christ, YOU have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you. He is your constant Companion, and He will never depart from you.

So is there really any reason that you would need to wait for an emergency to ask Holy Spirit to do mighty acts through you?

No! Mighty acts of valor can and should be everyday occurrences for us! We are called to do greater works than even Jesus did!

    In John 14:12, Jesus said:

    Start-quote

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Jesus did some pretty awesome stuff. You know: healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing the lepers, walking through walls, and things like that. 🙂 All in a day’s work for Him. But HE said, out of His own mouth, that WE–you and I–are going to do greater works than He did.

So what are we waiting for?

I don’t think we’re waiting at all. I think we simply don’t believe.

We don’t believe that His promise really applies to us in the midst of our everyday lives.

But it does. It applies to you. Yes, you! While you’re shuttling those kids to soccer practice, you can heal the sick. While YOU are riding to work in the carpool, you can see someone saved and set free. While you’re going to the grocery store, the football game, or at home in your bed, YOU can do greater works than Jesus did.

We know you can do greater works because Jesus said you could, and the Holy Spirit of might dwells in you to make those greater works happen.

    WALK IN YOUR SUPERNATURAL IDENTITY

9 Power Gifts of the Spirit EBOOK!

Do you want to walk on earth as Jesus did, manifesting miracles and living in the supernatural? If so, then this ebook is for you!

So the question is: Are you willing to put a demand on Him in faith for those greater works?

Are you willing to ask Him to help you do great exploits in your home, business, church, and even around the world? Are you willing to believe Him for more and greater and stronger?

Are you willing to call on Him as the Spirit of might, invite Him to have first place in your life, and do through you what only He can?

I think you are. I know you can. So let’s pray this simple prayer today:

Holy Spirit, I come before You in Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit, I love You. Thank You for being with me, for loving me, and for teaching me. I need You for everything, and I thank You for being right here with me all the time.

Holy Spirit, I know that You are the Spirit of might. Your Word says so, and You live inside me. So sweet Holy Spirit, I am calling on You right now:

I ask in Jesus’ name that You would manifest Yourself through me today as the Spirit of might that You are. I ask You to boldly demonstrate Your might, victory, valor, and power on my behalf in every part of my life. Fight my battles and win every victory. Show me how You’re moving. Obliterate every work of darkness in my life and every evil thing that comes against me, and help me to see what You’re doing while You work.

Lord Holy Spirit, I also ask You to help me do the greater works that Jesus declared I would do. Help me to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, and receive more from You so I can give more away. Help me to do even more than I could ever imagine. Help me to do greater works at home, in the business realm, in my finances, in my relationships, and everywhere I go.

Use me as the hands and feet of Jesus, and display Your strength and might through me to the world for Christ’s sake.

Thank You, Holy Spirit. I love You, and I give You all the praise. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

    1. Wow Jamie. WOW! That is such a powerful prayer. I am going to start praying that one everyday. I want to see Him moving in my life and in those around me and I want to be His hands and feet here on earth. I don’t think I could have found such bold and moving words; thank you for being so obedient, open and generous and finding them for all of us. May God bless you abundantly.

      1. Amen, Heidi! It’s all the Holy Spirit. I’m so glad these words resonated with you and I pray He would give you more might and power than ever before. The supernatural is completely natural to Him, and it can be for you too. 🙂

The Spirit of Might is definitely what I need. I told my mother, we have to look at the supernatural, not the natural. When you try to get by on your own strength even filled with the Holy Spirit, you give out so much. I didn’t realize that before, so illness and spiritual attack made the getting out of bed part of it all to real for me. I still have some odd hours but I get my sleep.

      1. Rebecca, I feel ya. 🙁 I’ve been so worn out lately that, many days, I’ve just wanted to cover my head with the covers and sleep for hours. My body has been begging for rest! And eventually we have to listen. Hopefully we get it sooner rather than later, before we hurt ourselves. Glad you’re getting some sleep and hopefully feeling better.

    3. I felt the power rise within my spirit and soul! Thank you Jesus!! I praise You Father! Thank you Jamie for being so obedient to the Holy Spirit!
