Winter Is Only a Season

Winter-Is-Only-a-SeasonHave you ever felt like the winter weather expresses what you feel inside?

Maybe you’re feeling quiet and restful, and you really identify with winter because it brings blankets of snow and peaceful “snow days.”

On the other hand, maybe you feel icy and cold. Maybe you’ve experienced a huge disappointment lately, and you’re trying to piece the jagged edges of your heart together again. For you, the winter winds and ice storms may feel like the only compassion you get.

If the latter example is how you’re feeling, I can identify. Right now, winter reminds me of happy Christmas carols and blankets of snow, but it wasn’t always like that for me. Winter used to remind me of my ice-cold heart, hurting emotions, and the tears I shed every night.

But God.

One day, God broke into my misery and depression with His love. I had never felt like God loved me before, but that day, I truly felt His love for the first time. It changed me. God changed me, and He used His love to do it. He wrapped His arms around me, comforted me, healed my hurting heart, and called me His daughter.

If you are enduring winter in your soul right now, our Heavenly Father wants to do the same for you.

He wants to pick you up like the beautiful treasure you are, snuggle you against His chest, and whisper things in your ear like:

  • “I love you.”
  • “I’m so proud of you.”
  • “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.”
  • “I made you. I’ve got great plans for you.”

Sometimes things happen and we have to endure seasons of winter. Even if you’re in a season of winter, though, you can find comfort in the knowledge that winter is only that: a season. Psalm 30:5b says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

Your Heavenly Father loves you. He knows what you’re going through. Just like you feel your children’s pain, your Heavenly Father feels your pain. Nevertheless, He is so much greater than that pain. He is ready to comfort you and heal you. He wants to turn your mourning into dancing, and your sorrow into joy.

Your Papa God sees where you are, and He has never given up on you. As a matter of fact, He’s in a great mood about His plans for you! He has promised to bring you through this season into the new thing He desires for your life.

So let me encourage you. You may feel today like you’re in an emotional winter, but spring is just ahead. Our Father has not forgotten you. You are His beloved child.

So would you allow Him to reach you with His love? Would you allow Him to comfort you and hug you? Would you listen for the songs He is singing over you this very minute?

Winter is only a season. Our Papa God has good plans for your life. He has inscribed you on the palm of His hand, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Winter is only a season. Look up, precious one! The warmth and beauty of spring are just ahead.

Have you ever had God turn your emotional winter into a beautiful spring? I’d love to hear your story! Please  leave your thoughts in the comments below.
