Resting in God: Don’t You Have To Work For Your Destiny? No!

God finished the works He planned for your life from the foundation of the world. Here's why you don't have to strive for your destiny in God. Part 3 of 5 in the "Rest In God, Reach Your Destiny" series by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

I hear you saying now, “Jamie, all this stuff about resting in God is well and good. But nothing will get done if I don’t go out and make it happen! How am I supposed to reach my destiny by just resting?”

I’m so glad you asked. Do you have to work for your destiny? Do you have to get out there and make it happen?

    Yep… and nope.

Today we’ll talk about the “no” part. Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the “yes” part.

Even though it contradicts our Western mindset (in which you have to work for everything!), the Bible teaches that you do not have to strive to reach your destiny.

Why? Because God already has your destiny signed, sealed, and delivered. Believe it or not, it’s yours!

To understand this, check out Hebrews 4:3, which says:

Start-quoteFor we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘they shall not enter My rest,’” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

This verse is the cornerstone of what God showed me about resting in Him and reaching my destiny. Look again at that last part, which says:

“…although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

    Whoa! Ok, halt everything.

    Question:

God just said He finished some stuff before the foundation of the world. What is He talking about? What did He finish?

    Answer:

He finished the “stuff” the Israelites were getting all worried about during their time in the wilderness:

    • How they would conquer their enemies;
    • What they would eat;
    • Who would lead them; etc.

Even at very gateway to the Promised Land, the Israelites were too fearful and intimidated to cross over into their inheritance. Yet God said in Hebrews 4:3 that He had taken care of all the “stuff” before the foundation of the world.

It’s almost like they didn’t have to worry at all. It’s almost like they could have just trusted God and followed His lead, and He would have worked it all out WITHOUT 40 years of wilderness wandering.

    Whaddaya know! 🙂

So after reading this, are you wondering if God has finished YOUR destiny before the foundation of the world, too?

Wonder no more. The Bible answers this question even more clearly in Ephesians 2:10:

Start-quoteFor we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Isn’t that beautiful? This verse says that God prepared YOUR destiny beforehand too.

He actually created your good works and then FINISHED them Himself. They have been finished from the foundation of the world.

Want further proof? Here’s an interesting tidbit:

You know that the Genesis account of creation tells us what God created on the first six days of this modern world’s existence, right? God created the sea, the sun, the trees, the animals, and even man on days one through six.

After each of the accounts of days one through six, the Bible says, “and the evening and the morning were the first day,” “and the evening and the morning were the second day,” etc.

But the seventh day is different.

On the seventh day, God didn’t create anything. He didn’t do any work. He just rested. And the funny thing is, it never says “and the evening and the morning were the seventh day.” It never says that the seventh day ended at all…

    …because God never stopped resting.

Hebrews 4:4 says puts it this way:

Start-quoteFor He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all His works’; and again in this place: ‘They shall not enter My rest.’”

God rested from ALL His works. All of His works were done by that point.

Then He rested, and He has continued resting to this day.

Take it to the bank in your own life and destiny:

This means that all of the good works God has in store for you ARE ALREADY DONE. You’ve been set up by God Himself.

    • You may not see your good works yet, but He does.
    • You may not see your destiny yet, but He does.
    • You may feel like you will never get to do what God has called you to do… but God knows exactly when you will do all your good works.

He knows you’re going to be awesome at these things too, because they are His good works. He created them and finished them for you. He’s just waiting to manifest them in you.

Your destiny is finished in Heaven, all stored up for you and ready to be manifest on earth. Your destiny has already been fully completed.

Think about these verses. Meditate on this truth. Eat it for breakfast, lunch, and supper today and every day, until you get it so deep in your heart that it brings peace to your mind and emotions.

All the works God has for you were finished before the foundation of the world.

    4. Thank you Jamie for the Prayer to Reverse Unjust Situations. Unfortunately for me, several unjust situations apply to me- they simply stacked up on top of an earlier unjust situation that lasted years and which was still left dangling unressolved. Fortunately for me however, I have your Prayer to Reverse Unjust Situations. I have read it aloud twice this evening. I pray you will say it for me too. And I pray for you too. Thank you.

Me a victim, my mother in law done it for years and only by last year it’s revealed.. me fighting hard… Definitely the rest in Lord shall not become laziness and an excuse for spiritual warfare, but to keep the ball rolling..
