Today, on Day 1 of our New Season Fast, we are focusing on getting our heart right before the Lord.

When you are facing big problems, it’s easy sometimes to place those problems between you and God.

In other words, it’s like we seek God but consider Him to be on the other side of our problems; and we feel that getting a solution to those problems is the most important thing as we approach the Lord.

But, if we want to grow spiritually, get closer to God, AND receive breakthrough, then the truth is that we need to look at God first and seek Him for Himself, not just for the solutions He gives by moving His strong hand and outstretched arm on our behalf.

Trust me: I’ve got problems too, just like you have problems.

Nevertheless, I feel so convicted–this burns in my heart–that I want to seek God for Himself during this fast, and trust that He is going to solve my problems while I do that.

In other words, I don’t want my big problems to obscure my horizon with God somewhere on the other side of those. Instead, I want a burning passion for Jesus that fills my horizon completely with Jesus, while maintaining absolute peace about my problems, which are on the other side of Jesus.

This is the correct Biblical order, according to Matthew 6:33:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).

Do you want to position your heart rightly before the Lord as well?

If so, pray this short prayer with me today:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, thank You for being my Father. Thank You for being all that I need at the point that I need it. I praise You for Who You are, and I choose to worship You in spirit and in truth today. And since I don’t know what to pray on my own, and I cannot do anything in the power of my own flesh, I pray in Jesus’ name that Your Holy Spirit would help me pray and seek You first right now.

Father God, You have been doing so much in my life, and I thank You.

We have walked through a lot of darkness together, but You are the Light of life. Jesus, You are the Light of the world. And Your Spirit is the burning fire inside my heart. Thank You for being in me, for filling me with the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, and for getting me through all that we have been through. I know that You work all things out for my good, and I thank You.

Holy Father, as I begin this fast and seek You in a special way for these next 21 days, I ask that You would help me position my heart rightly before You.

I desire to truly seek You FIRST, Father. I don’t want to seek solutions to my problems through you, even though I do need You to solve my problems and bring breakthrough, healing, reorganization, recalibration, and new life.

I need all that You have and all that You are, because without You I am nothing–and I certainly have nothing until and unless You provide it. So I am completely dependent on Your hand, Father, in all things–and You and I both know that.

But Father, during this period of fasting and prayer, I desire to have You burn in Me and give me a new love for You.

I desire to have You burn inside of me, and to seek You for Your face, knowing that Your hand will also move. But I want my focus to be only on You, and I desire to be in total peace about everything else, watching You do miracles on my behalf while I just seek You.

Will You help me to do that, Father?

• Will You restore unto me the joy of my salvation, please?
• Will You help me to burn for You, and only You, once again?
• Would You fill me once again with the fire and wind of Your Holy Spirit in a fresh outpouring and fresh baptism of Your Spirit?
• Will You cast down every idol that is in my heart that keeps me from You, and from seeking You first, and from obeying You in all things with all of my heart?
• Would You have me totally for Yourself once again, being the one and only passion of my heart and existence, please?
• Will You consume all of my horizon, so that all I see is YOU, You, and more of You?
• And will You please, in Jesus’ name, help me to be anxious for nothing, in everything with prayer and supplication making my requests known unto You, so that Your peace (which passes understanding) will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus?

Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen and amen.”

Friend, during this fast it is a time to walk into the new season God has for you, and the new thing He is doing for you.

However, first we must renew our passion only for HIM: for His Person, His face, His Spirit, His Son, His precious and wonderful and beautiful and all-consuming SELF.

O God, set us on fire so that we burn for You!
