Do you want God to reward you? And if you’re seeking Him, did you know that you can double your reward in 15 minutes? It’s true! Read on to learn how!

First, you need to know that God is a rewarder.

The Bible says that he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We learn this in Hebrews 11:6:

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV).

    Of course, we seek God for the primary purpose of knowing Him–not specifically to obtain rewards.

    However, the Bible does tell us that we must believe that He will reward us for seeking Him. This is just part of knowing God; we have to acknowledge how good He is if we even know Him a little bit. His goodness is one of His attributes that is easiest to notice! He is so kind to those who seek Him!

    So, when we come to Him, we have to believe Him for rewards.

    There are many rewards in the Bible, but one of the easiest to obtain is in Matthew 6.

    Jesus told us about this reward Himself, and it’s an easy one to receive. Look at what Jesus said:

    “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

    But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:5-6 NKJV).

    Based on this Scripture, we learn that, if you go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to the Father, then the Father (Who sees all of it!) will reward you OPENLY.

    Beloved, that’s a good promise.

    All you have to do is honor God enough to get fully alone with Him:

    • Away from your spouse, who wants to talk to you even when you’re trying to pray;
    • Away from your children, who want your attention nonstop;
    • Away from your laundry that needs doing, your clothes that need to be picked up, and your dishes that need to be washed.

    And if you will take the time to get alone with God and seek Him in prayer for even a few minutes a day, He will reward you openly.

    I claim this promise in prayer nearly every day.

    I have to get up way early in order to get time alone with the Lord, because my child gets up with the proverbial roosters and wants nonstop Mama attention (which I am happy to give). 🙂 But, every day when I drag myself out of bed, go into my private woman-cave (a little spot in my house), close the door

    … and yes, I can actually feel a spiritual difference when I have the door open versus closed; try it and see for yourself …

    … and when I get into my woman-cave and pray to the Father about whatever is on my heart …

    … then, every single day, He does something extraordinarily nice for me that I notice as a reward.

    That reward can look like any number of different things:

    • Either unexplainable favor comes;
    • or someone goes out of their way to encourage me or be sweet to me;
    • or a special gift arrives;
    • or an opportunity shows up that I wouldn’t otherwise have had;
    • or any number of other things.

    I notice these things that wouldn’t otherwise have happened. They are easy to notice; they stick out. And I have observed that these unusual blessings directly correspond to when I have met the Lord’s conditions from the promise above, and have asked Him to reward me for getting alone with Him and praying.

    Of course, prayer is the lifeblood of any Christian. We don’t get a medal for praying.

    For myself, I would die without prayer, literally. Connecting with the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit through prayer, and through praying through the Word as I read it, is what literally keeps me going. And the more I have on my to-do list, the more I have to pray to survive the stress of daily life.

    But God is the One Who said He’ll reward us for praying.

    He doesn’t have to reward us; He chooses to reward us! It’s not like He didn’t know, when He said He would reward us, that prayer was our lifeline anyway. He already knew we would need to pray in order to stay alive. That’s why Scripture is absolutely full of commands to pray.

    But, how good is God to reward us for doing what we have to do anyway?

    How good is He for blessing us just for seeking Him, even though we literally must seek Him to stay alive on this earth anyway? Life is difficult, and seeking God is the only thing that makes it survivable. Seeking Him is also the only thing that takes us past surviving and into thriving.

    But despite those truths, God said He would reward us for praying anyway. Hallelujah!

    So, how can you double your reward in 15 minutes?

    Like this:

    In addition to praying alone with God, behind closed doors, every morning, go ahead and pray alone with God, again behind closed doors, for 15 minutes every night before you go to bed, too.

    I used to do this all the time, even spending hours both morning and night alone with the Lord. But then, when I had a baby, I kept seeking God in the morning, but at night I often de-stressed by:

    • reading a book;
    • looking at my phone;
    • doom scrolling on social media;
    • or just collapsing into bed after a long day.

    I kept seeking God first, but I stopped seeking Him at the end of the day, other than our twice-daily time of family prayer and Bible reading with my husband and child. But I wasn’t adamantly pursuing time alone with God in the evening; just in the morning.

    Recently, however, I was studying Joshua and this passage hit home with me:

    “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8 NKJV).

    And I noticed that we have to meditate on His Word both day and night in order to make our way prosperous, and to have good success.

    Well, that really struck me because I had reduced my time of ardently seeking Him in prayer and Bible study to the morning time, instead of both morning and night. But, I want good success and a prosperous life, just like everybody else does. 🙂

    So, all convicted, I have been working on starting up prayer and Bible study time again in the evening, before bed. And the Lord has put this phrase in my spirit about it:

    “Double your reward in 15 minutes.”

    NEW book: The Way Forward: 10 Prayers for Your Journey Into the Promised Land

    When I heard this in my spirit, I knew the Lord was talking about His promise of reward in Matthew 6. Let’s look at that passage again:

    “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

    But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:5-6 NKJV).

    And I realized:

    • If God does good things to reward me during the day, just for seeking Him alone in prayer in the morning …
    • Then He will also do additional good things for me every time I seek Him in prayer again.
    • Therefore, if I take my times of seeking Him alone in prayer from once a day to twice a day, I will receive twice the rewards.

    Now, I promise: I’m not being mercenary here.

    I’m not treating God like a vending machine; God is worthy to be sought after and loved with all our hearts, whether He ever does another thing for us or not. Salvation was certainly enough.

    But it is GOD Who says that He wants to reward us …

    God Who said He actually WILL reward us …

    … and that we HAVE to believe Him for rewards if we come to Him.

    Wow! That’s deep! What a testimony of His goodness! He promises to reward us for doing what we ought to be doing anyway! Thank You, Abba Father!

    So, if you seek God in prayer once a day, you get rewarded for doing that. But, if you seek God in specific times of prayer twice a day, you get more rewards; for you get rewards every time you seek Him alone, in prayer, behind closed doors.

    Isn’t God good, that He gives us such gracious incentives to haul our tired selves out of the bed, off the couch, and into our prayer rooms to seek Him alone in the secret place? Thank You, Abba Father!

    You don’t have to take forever to do this, either.

    Truly, how would your life change if you added just 15 minutes of a second prayer time to your day? What difference could TWO sets of rewards every day make in your life?

    Of course, you already should be seeking God daily, alone with Him in prayer and the Word, for at least 15 minutes every single morning. You have to do this if you want to survive this life.

    (Make it one hour if you want to thrive; I believe that you will never be truly strong in God unless you spend at least an hour a day alone with Him in prayer, Bible study, and worship. And the more you go on with God, the more responsibility He gives you, and the more time you will require with Him every day–from one hour to two, and so on.)

    But the key is this: every time you get alone with God, close the door, and pray to the Father, you will get rewarded.

    So, if your life could use some additional rewards, why not do the thing God promises that He will reward you for doing, every time?

    Beloved, I officially challenge you today to double the rewards you are getting.

    Double your reward in 15 minutes. Add a second time of private prayer to your day. And watch and see what God does.
