Too often, we Christians have needs–but we fail to pour them all out to the Lord. We ask Him for help in general, but we stop there.
However, true comfort, peace, heart-healing, and help come when we pour out our heart to the Lord in its entirety and pray specifically.
As we read in Philippians chapter 4:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV).
We have to make our requests known to the Lord in everything. Not vaguely, not broadly, not in general terms. But we have to ask the Lord for everything, because in doing so we lay all our burdens at His feet.
This is truly the only way to cast your burdens at His feet, and it’s the only thing that brings us peace:
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22 NKJV).
Every time I pour out my heart to the Lord in specific prayer, I feel the difference.
My worries and cares and anxieties pour out of me into His ears, and I can feel Him receiving them. I can sense a lightening of my burdens all throughout my prayer time, and when I’m done (with nothing more that I can think of that I haven’t prayed about yet) I feel like a different person:
- I feel peace;
- I feel grounded in Him;
- I have assurance in my soul that He is going to answer.
He doesn’t always do all that I want Him to do right away when I pray. There is a process sometimes. But, it’s also true that sometimes He does answer other prayers immediately.
Either way, however, the process of specific prayer dumps my cares and worries at His feet and brings me peace–as well as a greater sense of intimacy with Him.
O beloved, you’ve got to pour out your heart to the Lord every single day in order to see change.
Not in self-pity, but in talking to your Best Friend. Tell Him all about everything that ails you, and ask Him specifically for what you need, want, and desire. Remind Him of what His Word says about it; the Word of God tells us that we should put Him in remembrance of His Word:
“Put Me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted” (Isaiah 43:26 NKJV).
And also, look at Isaiah 62:
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth” (Isaiah 62:6-7 NKJV).
We are to pray without ceasing, pray specifically, and never stop.
Therefore, in this 21-day fast, I urge you to dedicate yourself to prayer. Not just vague prayer, but specific prayer. And while you’re at it, go ahead and write your vision, as the Lord tells us to do in Habakkuk 2:
“Then the Lord answered me and said:
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith” (Habakkuk 2:2-4 NKJV).
I know that it’s difficult when we feel like we’ve been waiting on the Lord a long time, but His help has not yet come.
However, specific prayers and writing the vision will not only bring results over time (and sometimes immediately), but they are also a big part of how to receive comfort from the Holy Spirit while you wait.
Beloved, God has not forgotten you. But you have specific needs, and you’ve got to invest massive time in pouring out those specific prayers to the Lord during this season. God is good, no matter how tough your circumstances are right now. And no matter what, He sees you and knows you and loves you.
He will bring beauty to your situation, and He will send help; but you’ve got to pray specifically and keep on praying.
Even if you feel doubt, pray “Lord, I believe! Help me in my unbelief!” and keep on praying. Tell the Lord exactly what you desire for Him to do. Claim His promises in prayer, and keep on seeking His face first and foremost above everything else.
God has not forgotten you, beloved. He loves you so much, and we have to pour out our hearts to Him in specific prayer during this season. He will hear and answer.
What is your specific prayer need right now? Leave a brief comment below and I will agree with you in specific prayer as well.
