Prayer for Living Water

Do you need the Lord to water your dry, weary, parched soul today? If so, this prayer for living water is for you.

But first, what IS living water?

Jesus talked about the living water in John 4:10-14, when He was speaking with the Samaritan woman at the well:

“Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:10-14).

Beloved, the Living Water is Jesus Himself.

And not only that, but the living water–without the capital letters–is the power, refreshment, and LIFE that Jesus gives. After all, everything Jesus says gives us life:

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63 NKJV).

But it is not only Jesus’ words that give us life; even Who He is–the Great I Am, Emmanuel, dwelling with us–gives us life. And the life that Jesus gives with this living water is everlasting life.

However, His everlasting life doesn’t just begin when we get to Heaven. When we each give our lives to Jesus, He gives us everlasting life right away–in that very moment. His life fills us and makes our spirit come alive at the very moment of salvation. His living water is your portion, and His everlasting life is your portion.

But beloved, we need to stop expecting to only reap the benefits of everlasting life after we die.

Of course, the most important purpose of Jesus’ everlasting life and living water are to save you from your sin. If you have not yet made Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of your life, receiving forgiveness from all your sins from Him by His blood, read about that here.

Making Jesus the Lord of your life is the first step, and that is how you get the Living Water Himself–Jesus Christ–living in your heart in loving relationship. That is how you become a child of God. And you aren’t entitled to receive His benefits until you surrender your life to Him and let Him bring you into right standing with God.

But if you have done that, you have experienced that Jesus IS Living Water itself.

He gives living water, and He IS Living Water. And He begins to live within you when you give your life to Him. And that means:

• His life fills you at the moment of your salvation.
• His life–which is for now and for the hereafter–are your inheritance and your portion.
• He is constantly breathing life into you.
• And when you feel dry and parched …
• When your soul is so dry that you feel like stretched and tanned leather …
• When you have no strength in yourself …
• When you feel like your soul is so dry that it won’t even let rest, refreshment, or water permeate its hard surface …

This is when we can and should call upon Jesus, the Living Water, who is stronger than the hardest of dry, parched, weary souls. My friend, Jesus is the Living Water … and He is ready, eager, and willing to fill you right now, and to flood your soul with His rest and refreshment.

When Jesus fills you with living water, everything changes:

• The dry, hard crust of your tired soul begins softening and letting His refreshment in.
• The “mud cracks” in the landscape of your soul begin to disappear as the “meat” of your soul gets moistened by the anointing and joy of the Lord.
• You begin to look up, maybe for the first time in a long time.
• You start feeling like maybe you could get out of bed and go about your day.
• Your lips begin to curve upward in a smile. Even if it’s not a big grin yet, you start to see hope–and your face reflects that!
• Strength and motivation return.
• Hope comes back!

Beloved, Jesus does all things well. And when He fills you with His living water–which is simply a manifestation of Who He is, as the Living Water Himself–then you will feel the difference.

Do you need refreshment today? If so, pray this prayer for the Living Water Himself to fill you with His fountain and rivers of life:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Thank You for caring about me. I know that Your eye is on the sparrow, and You care for me even more than You care for the sparrows. Thank You. I praise You for Your goodness, kindness, and faithfulness to me.

Abba Father, my soul feels so weary. I am dry and parched, like dry, hard mud in a desert. I don’t even have the strength to go on; my motivation and interest in doing anything have fled from me.

But Abba Father, Lord Jesus, I come to You today and call on You as the Living Water.

Jesus, You said that You would give me living water if I ask. So, I am asking today. Please, Lord Jesus:

• Give me not only a drink, but a deluge of Your living water.
• Fill me up with Your anointing anew and afresh.
• I pray that Your anointing and living water would break the yoke of tiredness and malaise off of my life.
• Fill me with so much living water that I am abounding in LIFE–so much that I even feel Your abundant life.
• Let Your living water become in me a fountain of water, springing up into everlasting life that impacts me NOW. I know You have already saved me and given me eternal life, but fill me with the vibrance, joy, power, and physical strength and energy that I need to live my life every day and enjoy it.

Lord, take my soul and soak it in Your living water.

Let Your living water permeate my emotions, fears, concerns, tiredness, lack of motivation, malaise, worries, stress, sickness, and every other thing that is impacting me right now–whether I know it or not. And I pray that Your living water would soak into even the minutest portions of my body, soul, heart, and spirit, and bring me to life again in a way I can feel.

Fill me with strength and joy again, Abba Father, I pray in Jesus’ name:

• Let Your joy unspeakable and full of glory flood my soul.
• Let Your power and physical energy wash over me in wave after wave after wave.
• Help my soul to feel refreshed and abounding, rather than exhausted and parched.

Thank You, Abba Father. Thank You, Lord Jesus. And thank You, precious Holy Spirit. It is in Jesus’ mighty name I pray, amen.”
