Prayer to Think, Pay Attention, and Concentrate

Friend, are you struggling to think, pay attention, and concentrate? If so, Jesus can heal your cognitive and mental function! Yes, take medical action if you need to; always exercise wisdom in that. But, I also wrote you a sample prayer that you can use to pray over your cognitive function. Let’s ask the Healer and Great Physician, Jesus Christ, to heal you today!

Before we pray, I want to encourage you.

I have struggled with my cognitive function myself, here and there, as I have gotten older. For example:

• Having a hard time remembering things on a short-term basis (short-term memory);
• Trouble word-finding;
• Trouble with saying the wrong word when I intended to say another word;
• Trouble focusing and concentrating, and so on.

At times, these problems have been so bad that I have feared that I was literally losing my mind, or that I had some dread disease. It has been pretty scary at times–especially when I never had any such problems when I was younger!

However, on each and every occasion, for myself personally anyway, the Lord has shown me various practical solutions that have really helped.

When you ask God for wisdom, He will give it to you! And He will show you what to do. For example:

On some occasions, the Lord has helped me discover that my word-finding problems were a result of a nutritional problem or a vitamin deficiency (particularly vitamin B). (I am not saying that everyone’s situation is a vitamin deficiency; I’m just sharing how the Lord has helped me.)

So, I have learned to be vigilant about that. And I have been able to get the vitamins or nutrition I needed (or, in some cases, a vitamin B shot from my doctor), and my mental function has returned to normal.

Also, the Lord has been convicting me about my screen time, and how that impacts my ability to concentrate and pay attention.

Screen time trains your brain to not pay attention for long periods of time, but I’m almost always in front of a screen during my waking hours (whether my laptop, phone, or whatever). This impacts my sleep, as well.

Therefore, our Father has been convicting me to put these things down more–which has, in turn, really helped my ability to sleep, as well as to pay attention when I am awake.

Regardless of how the Lord shows you to get there, we all have an inheritance.

Your inheritance and portion in Christ is total healing, and walking in the mind of Christ. Jesus purchased these things for you with His blood.

Yes, friend: It is God’s will for you to be able to think, pay attention, and concentrate perfectly–as well as to be able to remember things and speak clearly. Jesus did not create us to malfunction; He created us with perfect function, and His blood made a way for us to walk in perfect healing and divine health.

And beloved, God’s healing applies to your brain, too.

You have the mind of Christ, according to what the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:16:

“For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16 NKJV).

And YES, I believe that’s true in every way–including in giving us the right for our brains to literally function as His brain; for JESUS is the only Life within us. Remember Galatians 2:20:

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20 NKJV).

And if you are crucified with Christ and Jesus Christ now lives in you, He is the only One alive in you. You were crucified! Jesus is now the total and complete Life inside you! And that’s why you have His mind–and His mind (the mind of Christ) does not malfunction in any way!

Friend, healing is your portion. This includes healing of your mental and cognitive function in every way.

Jesus paid the price on the cross to heal every aspect of your life: body, soul, and spirit. His blood made a way, and His blood is sufficient. As we learn in Isaiah 53:4-5:

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV).

The methods God uses to heal can be different for every person.

For one person, He may lead you to vitamins and supplements, like He did for me. He may speak to you about changing your habits, like your lack of sleep or your excessive screen time. Or, He may even lead you to something like speech therapy or other types of medical care.

(You should for sure discuss any cognitive symptoms you have been experiencing with your doctor, just to make sure. Remember that JESUS said that those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick do. Even Jesus says it’s okay to go to doctors.) 🙂

But, regardless of the path the Lord leads you down to find the answers to the cognitive symptoms you have been experiencing, He is still your Healer. And Jesus, the Great Physician, shed His blood so that you could be healed of not only sin, but also of every affliction of every kind–including problems in your cognitive and mental function.

Are you ready to pray–and also take action, however God leads you?

If so, pray this sample prayer for healing in your brain, and for renewed ability to think, pay attention, and concentrate:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ name.

Father God, thank You for being my Abba, my Daddy in Heaven. Thank You for taking care of me, and for caring about everything that matters to me. Nothing is too insignificant or inconsequential for You to help me with, Father, and I thank You for that. I praise You for Your goodness and mercy toward me.

Abba Father, I need Your help right now–and I know that You are just the right Person to ask.

Father, You created me. You formed me in my mother’s womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made because You made me; You knit me together Yourself. Thank You for that.

But Lord, my body isn’t working correctly right now.

I’m having problems with my brain–specifically with my ability to think, concentrate, and pay attention. What used to be easy isn’t coming easily to me anymore, and I feel like I am losing my mind–quite literally.

Abba Father, in Jesus’ name, would You help me with my mental function today?

(Pray through whatever symptoms below you are experiencing, and also feel free to add your own words.)

Specifically:

• The wrong words are coming out of my mouth. I think one word but say another, and I don’t know why I’m doing this. Please help me, Lord.
• I’m having trouble finding the right words at all. I can look at a thing and know what it is, but I am having the hardest time bringing the right word for the object to my mind.
• I’m distracted all the time; I am having a hard time concentrating on anything.
• It seems like I’m really struggling to pay attention, even when I used to be sharp and well able to pay attention all the time.

Father, these symptoms are really scary for me. And I’m asking for Your help:

• Please heal me completely, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet–and especially my brain and cognitive function. Please heal me by the stripes of Jesus, and I thank You for doing so.
• Help me to only speak out the right words, and to find all the words I need to say easily, and without struggle.
• Please bless me in my memory. Make both my short-term and long-term memory sharp, please, Father, in Jesus’ name. Help me to remember all things that I need to remember.
• Please restore all of my cognitive processes and cognitive function to perfection, with the blood and stripes of Jesus. Heal my brain, Abba, I pray, in Jesus’ name!
• Also, please show me what, if any, is the medical or psychological cause for these things.
• If I’m deficient in any vitamins, and that deficiency is causing these symptoms, then please help me to know that and to remedy that (including providing the necessary vitamins, Lord; vitamins are expensive).
• If these things are being caused by imbalanced nutrition, help me to eat better foods on purpose, so my food will fuel my body.
• If I’m struggling to pay attention because my eyes and brain are too used to screen time, then please help me to lay it all down: phone, computer, smartwatch, tablet, iPad, TV, and video games. You can have it all, Lord, if You want it–and please convict me hard and help me to know that I should put the screens down, if I should.
• If any of these symptoms are caused by dehydration or fatigue, help me to drink the water I need, and also to rest like I should.
• If these symptoms are being caused by poor gut health, then please heal my gut–and help me to take the steps that I need to take to heal my gut, also. (And please provide me with both the information I need and the supplies, vitamins, supplements, and foods I need to do this, as well!)

Father, I want my brain to be sharp again.

Your Word says that I have the mind of Christ, and that by the stripes of Jesus I am healed. So, I know that it can be … but I need Your help to get there.

So, Father:

• Would You give me all the wisdom I need today, instructing me and teaching me in the way I should go, especially in this area of pursuing healing?
• Would You help me to think the thoughts of Christ today?
• Would You heal my brain, gut, and body by the blood of Jesus today?
• Would You help me to make better decisions, and to prioritize self-care today?
• Would You please give me all the wisdom I need to walk in total healing in this area?

Thank You, Abba Father. You are my Creator; You are my Healer; and You and You alone can return me to Your Manufacturer’s specs–that perfect state of shalom peace that You created me to enjoy in Christ. Jesus purchased my healing for me on the cross, and I know that it is by Your stripes I was healed.

Thank You, Abba. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for dying for me and healing me.

I plead Your blood over my body, soul, and spirit–and especially over my brain. Let Your healing and mind be totally manifest in all that I do, physically as well as spiritually. I thank You for this, and I give You all the praise.

In Jesus’ name, amen.”
