Are you in a desperate time of need? If so, God has promises for you to cling to that will keep you alive. And in this series, I will share 60 promises with you that you can cling to in your time of need.

Beloved, all the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen,” and all of them are for you.

As it says in 2 Corinthians 1:20:

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20 NKJV).

This means that God will do what He says He will do. He will do it every time; He never breaks His Word. He literally cannot break His Word, for there is no unfaithfulness or lying in Him. All He has to draw from is holiness and faithfulness and truth, so those things are what He’s going to produce in your life, guaranteed. You can trust Him 100%, every time.

And not only is the Word of God true, but it will keep you alive.

Even in a storm, God’s Word will keep you alive. Deuteronomy 8 says this:

“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3 NKJV).

I learned this years ago when the Lord saw fit to put me through a trial by fire that lasted for several years. When I asked the Lord why He allowed me to suffer in that way, He answered by taking me to Deuteronomy 8.

Do you ever wonder why God allows you to suffer?

If so, Jamie’s audio MP3, Understand Your Suffering, is for you. In this 49-minute teaching, Jamie teaches what she learned during her personal story of extreme pain. You will learn:

    • How to look at suffering through the eyes of God.
    • The Father’s purpose for suffering; and
    • The truth from God’s Word about why a good God sometimes allows us to suffer.

If you’re suffering, God has a purpose for your pain.

Listen to this powerful message, and receive hope that, one day, you will look back and say, “I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

As I read that whole chapter (which I highly recommend), He told me that the reason He allowed me to go through that storm was to make me know “that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” I learned the lesson, and I’ve been acutely aware that it is only God’s Word keeping me alive ever since.

Beloved, God’s Word will keep you alive too. In fact, it’s the only thing keeping you alive.

Hebrews 1:1-4 tells us this explicitly:

    “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1:1-4 NKJV, emphasis mine).

Did you see that? Jesus, Who is God’s Son, upholds all things by the word of His power. It is in Him that we live and move and have our being:

“… for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring’” (Acts 17:28 NKJV).

And He is the Word made flesh:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:1-4 NKJV).

And Holy Spirit continued telling us about Jesus, the Word made flesh, in John 1:14:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14 NKJV).

So Jesus, who is the Word Incarnate, upholds all things by the word of His power.

That’s why God’s Word will keep you alive, beloved. And in times like these, it’s why we have to cling to His promises. God always keeps His Word, and there are thousands of promises in the Bible that apply to you RIGHT NOW. These are promises you can cling to.

I have become obsessive about praying specific Scriptures to the Lord.

Are you going through a storm you don’t deserve?

If so, Jamie’s book Stable In the Storm: Consecrated Living for Tumultuous Times will help you embrace God’s purposes for allowing your storm, so you can be done with the season of trial and testing sooner!

Order the paperback or download this ebook today, and let the Lord speak to you about His purposes for YOUR storm!

These specific Scriptures are keeping me alive. (Remember, man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.) The Scriptures I’m praying are mostly Bible promises, but some Scriptures are also petitions.

(For example, in the Psalms, where the Psalmist might pray a certain thing. Well, all Scripture was breathed out by God Himself. So, if the Psalmist wrote down that prayer, then we know that that prayer was God’s will for him to pray at that moment, since God breathed it out for the writer to write down.)

I really encourage you to become obsessive about praying specific Bible promises and passages, too.

To help myself keep track of which Scriptures I am obsessively praying, 🙂 I made myself what I call “Bible promise cards.” To do this:

    • I cut up pretty paper to approximately 3×5 size.
    • (To be honest, I didn’t even worry about cutting perfect lines. I just cut them. Your prayer will be just as effective, even if you don’t have time to find a paper cutter and make every angle precisely 90 degrees.) 😉
    • Then, I decorated the cards with stickers, and I wrote out dozens of promises on them by hand. Literally dozens.

(By the way, stickers are artwork you don’t have to do! And you can get loads of them for cheap at big box craft supply stores.)

I continue to add to my collection of handwritten Bible promise cards, and I’m praying them nearly every. single. day. Sometimes for hours. But that’s what it takes. These Scriptures have been keeping me alive. No exaggeration.

And I am seeing the Lord answer this extremely aggressive and intentional form of praying like never before.

Remember, Matthew 11:12 says that the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force:

“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matthew 11:12 NKJV).

Sometimes that “taking it by force” looks like aggressively seeking God in ways, and for lengths of time, that feel extreme and desperate–but in reality, aren’t extreme at all. How could one ever be too extreme in seeking God and loving God?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got to have breakthrough in every area. I will no longer be denied, even if I have to fast and pray all day every day for the rest of my days. I WILL see the goodness of God in the land of the living. And God is answering the cry of His Word, even though the journey has been difficult.

If you need breakthrough too, I encourage you to do the same thing:

Make some Bible promise cards. Write out some key Scriptures for your life, and begin praying them aggressively.

    Every day.

Even if it takes hours. Even if it takes your entire lunch break. Even if you have to turn off the TV, stay home from girls’/guys’ night, and fast and pray.
