Promise 1: The Reward of the Inheritance

Do you need to know today that your work is not in vain, and that it’s going to get you somewhere? Do you need reassurance from the Lord that you are not laboring in vain, and that He really does notice your diligence, and that He will bless you?

If so, then Colossians 3:23-24 is for you. This passage says:

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV).

Beloved, there is a reward for your hard work.

And it is a reward that you will receive, and no other. It is a reward that the devil cannot steal, for it comes directly from the Lord Himself–and He will make sure you get His reward. No one can take you, or anything else, out of His hand.

I know you’re laboring hard, and it may feel sometimes like you’re laboring in vain. However, my friend, you never are laboring in vain. You are working unto the Lord, and He will reward you.

Just be sure to remember that you are doing everything you do for Jesus.

You’re doing what you’re doing for Jesus, not for people. This is especially important to remember on those days when you feel like you’ve been pouring out your heart for people, but they don’t reciprocate in whatever way you wish they would.

When you’re caregiving, or serving, or ministering, or helping in whatever way, and people don’t love you back or serve you back with as much heart and passion as you put into serving them, it can be very hurtful and draining. You can be tempted to give up. Or, you might even begin feeling bitter because it feels like your love and service to them are not being reciprocated.

The trouble is that people can never satisfy you, even if they love you with all their hearts.

Only God can do that. And in this sinful world, many times you might love people with the love of the Lord, pouring out all you can to help and serve them–even if it’s your children!–but people many times don’t do the right thing and cherish, honor, or value you.

We live in a sinful world, and that kind of thing happens all the time. Maybe it’s happening to you right now–and if it is, I’m sorry.

However, beloved, there is a solution to all this:

Do nothing “for” people. Do everything you do FOR Jesus instead, even when it’s serving people FOR Jesus.

And when you pour out your heart, your love, your service, your passion, and your resources FOR JESUS, HE will never disappoint you. He will always reward you.

Let’s look at Colossians 3:23-24 again:

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24 NKJV).

Beloved, when you pour out your heart and life to the Lord, He will give you the reward of your inheritance.

He will reward you with the full inheritance He has for you. He will bless you for your faithfulness to Him, and He will personally prove to you that your work is not in vain.

Pour yourself out to Jesus today. Ask Him for the reward of the inheritance. Ask Him to reward you even today! And you will find that not only is your labor more fulfilling, but your frustration less.
