Prophetic Word: Ask God for Your New Name

It was many years ago, but I remember it as if it were yesterday. I had just had a radical encounter with the Lord, and He had changed my life, wrecked me with His Spirit, and set me on a course that would be forever marked for Him.

Then, He gave me a new name.

The name is between Him and me alone … but He told it to me clear as a bell. It was not something I would ever have imagined or come up with on my own. It was from Him.

Why did He do it?

Because when God confirms His covenant with you, He often gives you a new name.

Here’s just one example, from Isaiah 62:4:

You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married.”

The Bible contains plenty of other examples from when God changed someone’s name to match their new destiny.

Why does He do it?

  • Because names carry destiny.
  • Names convey inheritance.
  • Names convey relationship.
  • And it is our Father’s exclusive right to name you, His baby.

Many of you are entering into a new season right now, and Father wants to give you a new name.

Your new name will be a token from Him of both who you are in His eyes PLUS of what’s in store for your life. It will encourage you. It will touch your heart. It will inspire such awe that it will make you whisper.

That doesn’t mean you should legally change your name. The name God gives you has nothing to do with the name on your driver’s license or passport. But it will be a precious thing between you and Papa, and it will bless you.

What are you waiting for? Ask God for your new name today!

  10. Hi Jamie, my husband and I are asking for prayer. The construction site where he works laid off over 6000 people without any notice. But, we believe God. We know that God will allow things to happen to get you to shift in a different direction. We are asking that you keep us lifted up. We believe that God has a bigger plan for us. Please pray that we don’t miss where he is taking us. We are believing God for the greater in our lives. We Love You !!!! God Bless !!!

While thinking about what I am, an incarnate spirit, I realized that I didn’t know who I am. At that point a name appeared in my mind. I was astonished, to say the least.
Farther along in this same conversation I was wondering when Jesus would return. God spoke again and told me ” be patient, son”.

  13. I remember the dream God give me when He gave me new name, it was the most beautiful dream ever, I was walking through heaven, It was the most beautiful unexplainable Place you could imagine. Everything was illuminating,As I was walking I heard a roaring voice behind me like a loud trumpet, It called out my name, But not the name given to me at birth, The voice sent fear into Me, but then I felt love, Then I realized it was God. The name was Ridika. I researched the name when I woke from the dream, It means movement, stream, or brass. I forever cherish the day that God called me by a new name.

  15. This is so amazing I was looking all over to see if anyone encountered that experience with God. I literally was sitting down thinking about God when I heard in my spirit a name. I stop and was in shocked that I received a word of knowledge. I was about to walk away when I heard the Holy Spirit say to write it down. I wrote it down then the Holy Spirit bid me to lookup its meaning. I was blown away and astonished! It bought me to tears because it was so clear and so loud. Following that day I had a dream and in the dream, I was having a conversation with someone and I said the same name the Holy Spirit revealed to me. Did not understand at first but then my aunt told me the lord changed my name. And I just began to worship God because it was so unannounced, and truly i then knew my identity in Christ Jesus.

  16. Hi,

I was searching on this subject and found this article. I am glad I did for after about 1 year after I was saved God gave me a new name in a dream. I may have underestimated what it meant as I was ignorant to its meaning.

So thank you for this explanation.
    God bless you!

  17. Hi,
My pastor had an encounter with the Holy Spirit about me. Saying that my name isn’t my name and that God wants to changed my name. It begins with J, and he said that God is giving me a new name. I’m still praying on it and I can’t wait until our Heavenly Father reveals my name.

  18. So one day I was in worship service and the worship team was singing and I was in my zone worshipping God and someone walked up to me and said that the Holy Spirit pointed me out and told them to tell me I am Theodore. That God calls me Theodore. So I asked them what that means and they told me they didn’t know they were just prompted by the Holy Spirit and they obeyed. So I later looked up the name and it was greek for “God’s gift.” I was just in so much awe that God thinks that about me. So I’m grateful for this article you wrote.

I have been looking everywhere on the internet where God gives you a new name. A lot of places talk about how God did it in the past but none of how HE STILL does it.Holy Spirit whispered to my husband his name was messenger (or he told him you are my messenger) and I got really jealous because I wanted to know what he called me. I prayed..and complained 😳 and I finally let go and realized it didn’t matter what he called me— I knew I was his daughter. When I let go I was in the woods and heard “I call you BRAVE”. When God changes peoples names in the Bible it usually was in contrast to their earthly name. Funny thing is i am NOT brave. I was called a scaredy-cat most of my life but IN HIm I am brave. It is not my braveness but his. I often question if Satan whispered a lie in my ear that I am scared and afraid because he knew all along— he could see my Spirit was/is brave. I hope everyone hears their name and if not it’s okay. And realize that name is a quality of God he has given to show the world. Just like I have certain qualities of my parents.
