YOU Are God’s Dream

You Are God's Dream by Jamie Rohrbaugh

Awhile back, we talked about how God loves your dreams, personality, gifts, and desires. Yes, YOURS. God is not trying to get rid of you, and “He must increase, but I must decrease” should NOT be the prayer of the believer in Jesus.

(All the religious eyebrows just went up, but that’s okay; now you’ll be sure to read that article I just linked to. Hahahahaha.) 😉

Today, we are going to talk about the amazing, beautiful, totally-undeserved fact that YOU are God’s dream.

Did you know that God thinks about you all the time? Look at these Scripture verses:

    • Psalm 139:17-18 says, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.”
    • Psalm 40:5 says, “Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”
    • Isaiah 49:15-16 tells us, “‘Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.'”
    • And in Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “F’or I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.'”

    There are many more verses in the Bible that illustrate this same point. You are on God’s mind. He thinks about you constantly. God’s heart is ravished with love for you. {Tweet this!}

When God thinks, He thinks about you. When God dreams, He dreams about you.

I heard Pastor Bill Johnson of Bethel Church (Redding, CA) illustrate this point recently from First Kings 8:14-18. This passage describes the dedication of Solomon’s Temple, at which King Solomon made this speech:

Start-quote‘Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.

And he said: “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand has fulfilled it, saying, ‘Since the day that I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there; but I chose David to be over My people Israel.’

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel. But the Lord said to my father David, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well that it was in your heart.”

Read what God’s words were, one more time: “Since the day that I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city … but I chose David…”

    This is HUGE.

God did not choose a city. God did not dream of a temple. God chose David. God dreamed of David.

One-on-one intimacy has always been God’s idea. We see it throughout recorded history:

    • God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day.
    • Enoch walked with God, and their relationship was so precious to God that God took him (still alive) to Heaven to be with Him.
    • God tried to establish intimacy and relationship with His people at Mount Sinai, but the Israelites refused Him. They told Moses to talk to Him instead, and just tell them what God wanted. Thus God was forced to give them the Law instead of relationship, because that was all they would receive.
    • God talked to Moses face-to-face, as a man talks with his friend.
    • And the Holy Spirit lives in you and dwells with you, because you are His friend if you love Jesus and obey Him.

The temple was not God’s idea. David was God’s idea.

David dreamed up the temple out of his love for God. God saw that the temple was in David’s heart, and God said “amen” (meaning, “yes, let it be so!”) to David’s dream.

God loved David’s dream because He loved David. He fulfilled David’s dream because He loved David.

But God’s dream was never the same as David’s dream. God’s dream was just David… David, himself.

And today, God is dreaming of YOU. You are God’s dream.

God is your Father and you are His child. You’re a chip off the ol’ Block. Like any child, He loves to see you dream and grow and develop. As long as your dreams are holy, He says the “amen” to your  dream too.

But all the while, God Himself is just dreaming of you. He loves you so much. His heart beats for YOU.

So dream on, precious friend. But while you are dreaming, remember that God beat you to it. 🙂

What does it mean to you to know that God is dreaming of you? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment below.

    1. Jamie! Thank you so much for posting this; it has definitely blessed me!!!

        1. I was just àt a conference here in Spokane, Wa. With Dutch Sheets and Chuck Pierce and that was the first time I heard about God dreaming. I love this. So encouraging to see this cofirmation. Thanks!

    2. It makes me feel so full in my heart. To imagine this is hard but some part of my being is filled to the top with love back for Him at the thought. So huge a concept for a little piece of sand like me to be so precious to a great, unfathomable God.

You use the word ravished with love for us, that’s a lot o’ love. How glorious.

    3. Thank you for reminding me of this truth, Jamie! Psalm 139 is one of my most favorite passages in all of Scripture, especially the VOICE translation. Check it out at BibleGateway.com. I hope it resonates with you like it does with me.

God bless you “beyond your imagination” (Eph. 3:20) as you speak life into the people God intersects with your ministry.

      Rick
      Titus 2:13
