Day 14: He Calms the Storm

Are you in a storm right now? If so, the Lord wants to calm the storm for you and guide you to your desired haven. His Word says so, and we’re going to pray together today for that very thing to happen.

The Lord has led me to write 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer because the first 21 days were so powerful, but the Lord told me He isn’t done working miracles!

So, we are continuing to pray through various breakthrough Scriptures each day!

In this simple prayer series, I am sharing one Scripture verse or passage each day. I will also add bullet-point prayer directives you can use to pray through that Scripture. I won’t be writing out actual prayers, though; I feel the Lord wants you to exercise your prayer muscles by talking to Him right out of your heart!

Today, Day 14, we are asking God to calm the storm and guide you to your desired haven.

Psalm 107:28-30 says:

“Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven” (Psalm 107:28-30).

Friend, I want to encourage you today because He calms the storm:

God sees every storm you are in. He sees and knows every tear you shed and every anguish of your heart. When you cry out to Him even in the middle of your trouble, He will bring you out of your distresses if you wait on Him and obey Him.

Not only will He bring you out of your distresses, but He calms the storm on your behalf as well. He will make the waves still for you, and you will be able to breathe again because you have suddenly entered into a quiet place.

The quiet place doesn’t always come the way you expect it, but the Lord will bring you peace and calm your storm in whatever way He knows is best for you according to His eternal wisdom.

When the Lord calms the storm, you get your peace and joy back.

The Scripture above says, “Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven.” When you come out of the storm and into quietness and rest, there is a peace that returns to your soul.

(The good news is: Even before your storm is calmed, you can still have that same peace if you will look to Jesus and keep your eyes on Him.)

But after He calms the storm, then comes my favorite part: He guides you to your desired haven.

He guides you to your desired haven. That means He shows you the way, but you have to get up and go with Him to wherever it is He shows you. He isn’t your chariot to your desired haven; He is your guide. (Key difference!) 

Therefore, my friend, no matter what storm you are going through or what is happening in your life, I encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus and be mobile. Get up and go with Him to your desired haven, even if you don’t feel like you can. Ask Him for help, and He will help you! 

Pray through the points below today, for He calms the storm and guides you to your desired haven!

Pray as follows, and remember our verse:

“Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven” (Psalm 107:28-30).

So as you pray:

• Tell the Father that you come before Him in Jesus’ name, for Jesus is the only way to the Father.
• Thank Him that, through Jesus, you can come boldly before the throne of grace, where you will obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
• Praise Him for His mighty acts in your life. 
• Praise Him for keeping you alive, for it is His breath in your lungs right now!
• Cry out to the Lord in your trouble. Pour out your heart to Him and tell Him all about what’s bothering you!
• Ask Him to bring you out of your distresses. 
• Pray that the Lord would show you the way He wants you to go to come out of your distresses. If there is something He wants you to do, ask Him to show you what it is–even if you have to be brave to do it!
• Ask Him to carry you out of this distressing situation.
• Ask the Lord, in faith as your good Father, to calm the storm for you.
• Pray that you would keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith, and that He would help you keep your eyes on Jesus today!
• Pray that the waves around you would still.
• Speak to those waves: “Peace, be still!”
• Speak to the storm: “Peace, be still!”
• Ask Him to bring you into a quiet place of peace and rest in Him.
• Pray that He would help you rest; confess to Him out loud that you choose to come to Him, for you are weary and heavy laden, and HE will give you rest!
• Confess out loud to Him that you choose to enter His rest today!
• Ask Him to restore your hope and joy.
• Pray that He would make you glad right now; that His joy would rise up in you by His Holy Spirit, and that His joy would fill you to the full.
• Thank Him for making things quiet for you! Thank Him for calming the storm!
• Pray that He would guide you to your desired haven.
• Tell Him what that haven is! Describe your dream to Him; present all your requests to Him. 
• Ask Him to give you eyes to see His leading, ears to hear His voice more clearly, and that He would sharpen your hearing and discernment so that you easily and quickly follow Him as He guides you.
• Thank Him for guiding you to your desired haven.
• Thank Him for instructing you and teaching you in the way you should go, and for guiding you with His eye upon you.
• Pray for wisdom! Ask Him to give you abundant wisdom today, in Jesus’ name!
• Thank Him for hearing and answering your prayer. Thank Him for calming the storm; for giving you joy; for bringing you into peace, rest, and quietness; and for guiding you into your desired haven.
• Give Him all the praise!

Beloved, God calms the storm and brings you peace and rest. He will guide you into your desired haven–the place He has promised you that He has put into your heart. Does this Scripture encourage you today? If so, leave a comment below!
