How do you know God wants to reward you?

God’s promises of reward are listed throughout Scripture. A few of my favorite verses about reward include the following:

First, in Hebrews 11:6, we learn that we HAVE to believe that God exists, AND that He rewards us for diligently seeking Him:

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV).

Also, God’s Word promises us rewards for praying in secret:

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:5-6 NKJV).

And also for helping the poor in secret:

“But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matthew 6:3-4 NKJV).

And even for fasting in secret:

“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:16-18 NKJV).

Loving and obeying God’s Word also brings rewards:

“He who despises the word will be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded” (Proverbs 13:13 NKJV, emphasis mine).

    And look at Psalm 1:1-3:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV).

And even diligent service to God and others carries a reward.

For example, look at the story of Ruth. Ruth famously refused to leave her mother-in-law, Naomi, and promised instead to accompany Naomi in leaving Moab and going back to Israel. When she did, she promised that Naomi’s people would become Ruth’s people, and Naomi’s God would be Ruth’s God. And so she took care of Naomi and served her, and served our God too.

And look what the Bible says about reward for Ruth:

“And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.

The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge” (Ruth 2:11-12 NKJV).

Even Boaz–who lived around a thousand years before Jesus came to earth to teach us about rewards in person–even Boaz knew that the God of Israel is a rewarder.

And in the days of King Asa, Holy Spirit told the prophet Azariah to say this to Asa about reward:

Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded. And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law; but when in their trouble they turned to the Lord God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them. And in those times there was no peace to the one who went out, nor to the one who came in, but great turmoil was on all the inhabitants of the lands. So nation was destroyed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every adversity.

But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded! (2 Chronicles 15:1-7 NKJV, emphasis mine).

This passage tells us, yet again, that our God rewards us for seeking Him diligently; for serving Him and others diligently; and for persevering, even when we want to quit! Remember, Azariah did not speak of his own accord; he was speaking

Beloved, our God is a faithful God–and He rewards your faithfulness.

He rewards you for your prayers, your fasting, your seeking Him, your service to others, and your service to Him. He is a reward-handing-out God!

But do we ask Him for His rewards? And do we ask Him for those rewards in proportion to how effusively He has promised to give them? Remember, you have not because you ask not:

“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures” (James 4:1-3 NKJV, emphasis mine).

But we have a blank check with God if we do ask Him for things in Jesus’ name:

“If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14:14 NKJV).

    And:

And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:23-24 NKJV).

    And also in Matthew 7:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV).

The Lord has opened a door for us to be a powerful support to over 20 churches in Guatemala. Check out what’s happening, and join the move by partnering with us today!

Therefore, beloved, today we are going to ASK.

Have you been faithfully seeking God? Have you been serving Him and others? Have you persevered when the persevering was hard? Have you stayed faithful when all you wanted to do was quit?

If so, you have rewards coming to you.

And if you are ready to ask God for those rewards, pray this with me today:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, You are so good, and Your mercy endures forever. Thank You for that, and thank You for always taking care of me and being my Friend.

Lord, Your Word promises me all kinds of rewards:

Abba Father, You have been good to me. I am very grateful for that, and I would never want to deny Your goodness or fail to acknowledge Your blessings. You have been so good and kind to me, and I know that You will always be faithful to take care of me. Thank You for all of that, Abba; I give You praise and glory.

But Father, I feel like Your Word promises a lot more in rewards than I have seen thus far.

And so, Abba Father, I come to You today in Jesus’ name to ask You to pour out on me the fullness of the rewards You have promised:

    • Where I have loved and served You faithfully, even when I wanted to quit: Father, please reward me.
    • Where I have given and prayed and fasted in secret, and as unto You: Father, please reward me.
    • For every time I have loved Your commandments, which I hope and pray would be every moment of my life since You saved me: Father, please reward me, in Jesus’ name.
    • For persevering in service, and for having a right heart toward You, and for every time I have responded rightly in whatever situation I have faced (all of which You helped me with, but You still promise to reward me): Father, please pour out on me every single reward You have promised.

Abba Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that You would reward me today.

It feels funny to ask, Lord, because all of the good things I have done were only accomplished because You were doing them through me. Your Word says that, without Jesus, I can do nothing. I am only a branch, and Jesus is the Vine. I can do nothing without You, and You get credit for anything in my life that is good.

Nevertheless, Abba, Your Word says that You are a rewarder, and that You will reward me for diligently seeking and serving You. And Your Word says that it is a requirement for me to believe that in order to come to You.

Therefore, Father, even though I don’t know what all You have in store for me, I pray today in Jesus’ name–I beg with all of my heart:

Please submerge me in the fullness of Your rewards today.

Please pour out on me every good thing You have for me, and show me the answers to my prayers. Please make clear to me the connection between what I do and the rewards that You send, and please shower me with blessings and rewards of every kind, even though I could never merit them in the strength of my own flesh.

Thank You, Abba Father. I give You all the praise and glory. And it’s in Jesus’ mighty and marvelous name I pray, amen.”

Beloved, our God is a rewarder.

It’s true that we need to meet His conditions in order to receive His rewards, but His rewards are beyond generous when we do. Go ahead and ask Him for the rewards that He has promised you today. Search the Scriptures and believe His promises. Obey His Word, and He will honor your faithfulness!
