Beloved friends, I’m going to share a secret with you today that is an absolute KEY to resurrection life. I mean KEY. It WORKS, and it works every time.
Without fail.
Here’s the secret:
“Life” is not a force or a mere state of inertia that comes after being born. “Life” is a substance that emanates from God; and if you feel like you’re dying, you need a new infusion of life.
To see an illustration of what I mean when I say “life is a substance,” watch the NASA video of the sun below.
Remember that the heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork! As you watch, imagine that the sun represents God, and the stuff emanating from it is the substance called life. (Remember that God IS Life Itself; He is self-contained Life and all life proceeds from Him.)
Then imagine that life–instead of falling back inside God, like the solar flares fall back into the sun–that life actually emanates OUT from Him directly into you.
Uh huh.
Imagine that life going straight from God and right into you. Feel its massive, healing, breath-giving, life-giving, resurrecting force–the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit.
This is powerful, all. You’ll get it. Watch:
So how do you get the infusion of life that you need? How do you get recharged?
Jesus told us how in John 6:63:
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
Beloved, if you need new life in your body, soul, or spirit (or all three), you can literally take in that life by taking in the words of Jesus.
I first learned the reality of this a few years ago when I was betrayed by someone I loved. (I wrote about that here, in When Loving Your Sheep Hurts, and I also had an article published about it over on Christianity Today’s Gifted for Leadership, here.) After that experience, I felt so dead that I didn’t know if I would ever come alive again.
But you know what? Through a series of divine interventions, God healed me. And throughout the entire healing process, I really believe that the biggest factor–the biggest healing agent He used–was this:
I read from John 6:63 that the words that Jesus speaks are spirit and life. I knew I needed an infusion of life, because I felt dead. So I purposely dug into the words of Jesus in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and read the words that Jesus spoke (and those words only).
I mean, I took John 6:63 really literally, too. I was so desperate for life that I even skipped the narratives around the stories in the Gospels. I just read the conversation–the actual words of Jesus. 🙂 (I’m not saying you have to do that; it’s all God’s Word. But that’s what I did, because I was desperate and I was doing what I could with the faith I had.)
Please don’t get me wrong here. The entire Bible is God-breathed and every word in it is from God. But there’s something about reading the words of Jesus, specifically. I’m not saying that the other words in other books of the Bible have less power. But somehow, it increases my faith to read the words that Jesus Himself spoke while on the earth.
And every time I read His words, I could feel myself receiving life from Him.
There’s something about His words.
Of course they are about awesome subject matter; but it’s more than that. His words carry His breath and the substance of His life. And His breath proceeds directly out of His mouth into my heart and spirit, carrying spirit and life into me when it felt like there was none before.
Maybe that has to do with why God’s big message to the Israelites–and a promise Jesus clung to when tempted in the wilderness–was this:
So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3).
Man does not live by bread alone. Man lives by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
Wow.
That, my friend, has changed my life. Every time I have needed a new infusion of life, I have inhaled the words of Jesus. Devoured the words of Jesus. Drunk deeply of the words of Jesus.
And every time, God has proven Himself to be true. Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. Every time, I have received a new infusion of life and seen Him resurrect my soul, spirit, and body, all to the glory of God.
Every time. Even those times I didn’t think it possible to live again.
So beloved, are you hurting right now? Do you need a new infusion of LIFE from the Lord?
If so, please:
- Open your Bible.
- Turn to Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. (I personally love to read anywhere in John 6, John 7, Matthew 5-7, and John 14, if you need any ideas for where to start.)
- And read the words of Jesus.
Devour the words of Jesus.
Inhale the words of Jesus. Digest them. Ponder them. Chew on them.
Allow our Lord’s words to hit you with all their feeding, life-giving, sustaining, renewing, invigorating, resurrecting force.
If you will, you also will find that the words that Jesus speaks are spirit, and they are life.
You don’t have to stay hurting. You don’t have to stay dead or feeling dead. Papa will give you new life through His words right now, today.
Is the Holy Spirit speaking this message to your spirit right now? If so, please leave a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!

Hi Jammie,
This is wonderfull that words alone do heal a broken soul. However i have been through loss of hope and had been ressurected to feeling more healthier spiritually and even my muscles.
Wonderful owrds spoken by the Owner of Life are bringing back the dead. Remember the Word, At the beginning there was the Word, the Word was in God and God was the Word. All things happened because of the Word.
Amen. He’s that Word who brings life from the dead. Amen. Thank you so much for sharing this, Ndleleni!
Jamie,
I love this post too. You are speaking to me so much through this series. In my Tuesday night Bible study, we were talking about the gift of faith and how it is faith + the Word spoken that = the action and how we must “eat” the Word of God and get it infused in every cell of our bodies so we can stand strong against the attacks of the enemy. Jeremiah 15:16 we must “digest” the Word and Ezekiel 2:8 where Ezekiel had to “eat” the Word. I love how God shows me the same message in so many different outlets! I love your enthusiasm and love for God. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Eva
Yes! Awesome Eva!
Amen and amen. You’re preaching right back to me, Eva. I love it. Reminds me of a history byte I love: In ancient Israel, the sages would have their students write the Torah with honey on a tablet, then literally lick it off. That’s why the Bible says that His Word is sweeter than honey. His Word truly is food for our inmost being and outer being too.
I love John too, he knew he was the disciple Jesus loved and that is something we all need to be reassured of especially when we ‘re burned out. I like to let the sun warm my back, it was healing.
Amen. Something about the love of God is so healing. It reassures us that there’s a better day coming, and comforts us when we’re weak or hurting. Praise God for that.
Leaning wwwaaayyy in to this Jamie.
Remember a man of God saying “Faith must stand the test of discouragement…” OH my Lord! Seems like such a fight to remain in joy and peace. “Battlefield of the mind” Joyce Meyers calls it.
A few years ago, i learned of a book, “The Greatest Words Ever Spoken: Everything Jesus Said about You, Your Life, and Everything Else”. It takes all of the statements Jesus made in the New Testament have been brought together and organized under more than 200 topics. By Steven K Scott. Ever hear of him?
Jesus’ every Word carries such power, compassion, truth and love…two verses i’m meditating on for much needed salve to my weary soul:
“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John 14:18
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Thanks for this key Jamie! Gonna dig in for more!
Here i come Jesus, pressing in to You…need to hear Your whisper again. Need to feel Your breath across my face as i glory in Your embrace. Desperate for You…
Just thought of the song “Jesus I Come” by Elevation Worship
I have never heard of Steven Scott, but it sounds great! Joyce Meyer has a similar book about Scriptures all through the Word to speak out as declarations. I used to pace back in forth in my kitchen and shout them at the top of my lungs. LOL. Not that God is hard of hearing, but sometimes my faith was hard of hearing! 😉 I love those 2 verses you shared, though. Jesus is amazing. 🙂 Thank you so much for always sharing your thoughts… they are SO encouraging!
Ubetcha! The Secret Power of Speaking God’s Word book categorized by Joyce Meyer – got it in my walking around stash:-) Plus, it’s purple, my favorite color!
So funny, I could totally picture you doing that (cracking up over here). I’ve had many good laughs thinking about my own crazy interactions and outbursts with Him. But, you know, i bet we make our Father laugh in an endearing way. I could picture Him chuckling in amusement like, why in the world is this child screaming (LOL)… then leaning forward over you, eyes smiling and full of love saying “Yes… that’s right baby, you say it! Amen!” then turning to the angels and saying, “My baby is preaching! Put something in her offering plate to sew a seed”
Can’t help it with the music – it is constant in me. It’s God-breathed into my DNA and flows through my blood. My instrument is my voice (His really). Been singing with my Abba since i was a little girl behind closed doors. Our relationship is interwoven with the song. Sing and pray, pray and sing , songs are prayers are songs – that’s Us. I am working on learning the guitar and would also love to learn to play piano, so i’d be able to compose the music to Our songs. Desire so much that i could free up my schedule etc. to really make progress in this.
Love it! I love the guitar. I don’t play it, but I love to hear it. 🙂
This article blessed me, the one thing I founded I wasn’t doing was applying and praying God’s word to my situation. I was trying to fight my own battles with a form of godlyness and denying the full power of God which come through his word. I’m so glad I came across your article and site..I know what have to do and need the engrafted word of God which is able to save my soul..Speak the word only and stop trying to figure it out let the power of God word work it out..
