Pray This: Lord, Send Me a Kingdom Patron

Do you feel like you take care of everybody else, but nobody takes care of you to the same degree? Do you go about your days trying to make everyone else’s dreams come true–but no one seems to care about your dreams? If so, then you need to pray, “Lord, send me a Kingdom patron!”

What is a Kingdom patron?

A patron is a person with heart, passion, and resources to sponsor creative works. For centuries, dreamers, artists, and musicians have been sponsored by patrons. Many of the great works of art and music that we have today would not exist without the system of royal patronage.

For example, consider three famous classical composers:

• George Frederic Handel, composer of the famous Messiah, wrote many of his operas, oratorios, and cantatas under the royal patronage of King George I of England.
• Archduke Rudolph of Austria, Prince Royal of Bohemia, was Beethoven‘s greatest patron.
• Franz Joseph Haydn was supported by the noble Hungarian Esterházy family.

In each of these cases, the composers’ royal patrons sponsored the composers’ creative works. Also, they cared for the composers personally, making sure they were well-equipped and provided for in every way so they could freely create.

Is the system of royal patronage Biblical?

I believe it is. I believe it is a manifestation of what God promised in Luke 6:38, which says:

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38 NKJV).

If you consider the examples of the classical composers listed above, they gave and gave of themselves in order to compose music for the masses:

• They labored over their work.
• They spent years mastering their crafts–mastering each instrument they played, mastering the difficult work of composition, mastering the challenge of directing musicians and singers.
• They poured themselves out to improve the earth and serve the people who would hear their music.

That means they GAVE. They gave of themselves.

And their royal patrons–nobles and kings and princes and heiresses–demonstrated the goodness of God by giving back to them to take care of them in all their needs and sponsor their creative works to be released into the world.

Because giving is supposed to be a circle. It’s not supposed to be a one-way street, with one person doing all the giving and the recipients just taking and taking. Giving and patronage and sponsorship and service are supposed to flow in every direction.

How does this apply to you? Like this:

Do you pour yourself out every day for others? If so, then you can ask the Lord to send YOU a Kingdom patron to sponsor your work, and to bless you as you have blessed others.

I know this may sound materialistic, but it’s not. It’s just the Word. And if you have become exhausted in your continuous pouring out, maybe part of that is because people are not pouring into you the same way you pour out. If that is the case, I believe the Lord wants to send people to you:

• To hold up your hands, the same way you hold up others’ hands;
• To make your dreams come true, the same way you make others’ dreams come true;
• To take care of you, the same way you take care of everyone else.

In fact, God’s Word says He wants to give you MORE than you pour out–not just “the same way.”

Look again at Luke 6:38:

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

“Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.” That means you get more than you poured out.

But how do we interpret the second phrase: “For with the same measure that you use, it will be measure back to you”?

Well, the way I understand it, it is a measure of the heart. If you look at literal measurements, you would receive back equal to what you sowed. But, the first part of the verse clearly states you will get more than you sowed.

But when you look at the heart …

When you consider your giving the same way Jesus looked at the widow’s tiny mite (which He said was a greater gift than all the offerings of the wealthy) …

Then perhaps the Lord could be saying that, when you give with your whole heart, others will give back to you with their whole heart. When you give to the full extent of your resources, others will give back to you with the full extent of their resources.

And in order to make Part 1 of the verse true (“good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over …”), those people must have a bigger heart and resources than you do. That describes a royal patron.

This is what it says in Isaiah 49:23:

“Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers; they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord, for they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me” (Isaiah 49:23 NKJV).

What do foster fathers and nursing mothers do?

They provide for your needs. They take care of you, both physically, financially, and emotionally. The Lord uses them to provide for you personally in every way. And so yes, the Lord desires to send people with more resources than you have to help make your Kingdom calling and dreams come forth on the earth.

And it’s all for the sake of Jesus, that the Lamb who was slain would receive the reward of His suffering. (See Isaiah 53.)

Friend, you have a dream and you have to work for it. But you don’t have to work alone.

It is God’s will to send you Kingdom helpers. As you pour out of yourself every day, it is God’s will for others to pour back into you and help you. That is what you do when you partner with this ministry, or with any ministry. And just like that, God wants to send you YOUR OWN Kingdom patrons who will partner with you to release God’s dreams on the earth.

Are you ready for the Lord to send you a Kingdom patron (or patrons)? If so, pray this prayer today:

“Father God, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Holy Father, thank You for this opportunity to cast my cares upon You, for You care for me. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me, even when no one else takes care of me. Thank You for being my Daddy, my true Father, upon whom I can depend. You are really good to me, and I thank You for it.

Father, I want to praise You today because You are worthy.

You are all that is good and holy and righteous and true. You are not a man, that You should lie. Everything You have spoken, You will do. You are reliable in every way, and You will ever be faithful. Thank You for that; I praise You.

Abba Father, You know that Jesus said in Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Jesus said that because He heard You say it first; the words came from You and cannot return to You void.

But Father, I do give. I give abundantly all day long–and I am grateful that You have made it possible for me to do this.

I love to give, Lord; giving is my greatest joy, other than being in Your presence. It truly is more blessed to give than to receive–and I thank You for giving me seed to sow and making me a sower.

But Lord, Your Word says that, as I give, it ought to come back to me. And I have not seen that happening like You promised it would.

All my life, and certainly since You have prospered me to sow more and more, it seems like many people take advantage of me and use me. I give to them, and I plot to give, devising ways to give and bless them. I hold up their hands, care about them, and care for them with my whole heart. And it is my honor to do so. I love it; thank You for using me in that way.

Father, even though I feel used sometimes, I know that people can’t truly use me–for I give freely from a pure heart, with no strings attached.

I love Your people, and I give because I love, just like You do: “For God so loved the world that He gave ….” And You have tested me and proved my giving to be pure; to the pure all things are pure. I know You have led me to be a giver like this, Father, and Your Word says You will pay it back to me.

But Father God, I have not yet seen You pay it back to me in the same measure that I give–at least, I don’t think I have.

I want to be so careful how I pray here, Father; for You HAVE blessed me a lot. I never want to negate those blessings or fail to acknowledge them. Please help me to pray aright!

You have been so good to me in every way, and I am thankful to You for it! You have also surrounded me now with the best people. I never want to get down into self-pity; I want to be thankful, instead. Thank You for Your goodness, kindness, and blessings toward me.

But Father, I see Your Word. Then, I look at my experience … and I don’t feel that my experience matches what You promise me in Your Word. So I am asking You to rectify this, Father.

Here’s what I’m asking today in Jesus’ name:

• That as I have poured myself out to make other people’s dreams come true, so You would send the Kingdom patrons You have assigned to me to help make my dreams come true.
• That as I have spent myself to take care of other people personally, so You would send Kingdom patrons to me to take care of me personally too.
• That as I have done everything I can to take care of people professionally–in their callings, ministries, and vocations–so You would send people to me to take care of me and my calling, ministry, and vocation too.
• That as I have prayed for others and interceded for them for years, so You would send people to me who are assigned to intercede for me. Let them be people whom I can trust, Father, and who will be trustworthy.

Father, I feel like I hold up everyone else’s hands, but no one takes care of me the same way.

A lot of that is that You have blessed me with the faith to hold up everyone else’s hands–and You honor that faith by sending me the financial resources to help meet people’s needs. I thank You for that, Father.

But, I’m asking also that You would send people to me with equal faith, who also steward Your resources in even greater measures, Father, so that there can be a constant flow among Your Body like Your Word says there should be.

Father, I thank You for blessing me. I thank You for allowing me to be Your banker in many cases.

But I need Your help, Father. I need the help of my brothers and sisters in Christ. And I desire to not be on the front lines all the time–but to be protected, like You use me as Your hands and feet, protecting other people in various ways.

Father, if I have erred in any way by praying these things, please forgive me.

If I have prayed inaccurately or with a wrong heart, forgive me. Let Holy Spirit interpret my prayer and translate it into a right prayer with moanings and groanings which cannot be uttered.

But Father, I am claiming Your promise in Luke 6:38 today.

I am asking that, in all the ways I give and have given, You would let it come back to me–and that everything would be given into my bosom, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

I am also asking that You would send me a Kingdom patron, or multiple Kingdom patrons, the same way You have used me to be a patron for so many others. The way that I have been supporting them, caring for them, and holding up their hands in prayer, friendship, intercession, giving, and armor-bearing … I ask You to send me Kingdom patrons who will do the same for me.

Father, as I have given, let it come back to me today.

Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, let men give into my bosom today, in Jesus’ name. Thank You, Heavenly Father. Thank You for understanding my heart. Thank You that Holy Spirit is helping me pray and interceding for me right now. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer.

Thank You for the people You have already sent to me, and thank You for the additional people You are sending. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
