Prayer for a Sold-Out Spirit

Do you want to live sold out to God? Do you want to be completely empty of selfish desires and ambitions, living only for God, and for His glory? If so, this short prayer to be empty of self, and to have a sold-out spirit unto God, will help you.

Before we pray for a sold-out spirit to the Lord, let’s take a look at a few Scriptures on this topic.

First, Colossians 3:1-2 teaches us to glue our thoughts to Jesus, living always for Him:

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:1-2 NKJV). 

And also, Philippians 2:5-11 teaches us to make ourselves humble and pour out our lives for God and others:

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:5-11 NKJV).

Additionally, the apostle Paul wrote that we should always press on for eternal things:

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12-14 NKJV).

In all of these passages, we see that it is God’s will for us to live for the eternal.

Beloved, how would your life look different if you were living only for the eternal?

For example:

• How could God use you if you were always full of His manifest power?
• How would your heart and emotions feel if you were consumed with desire for Jesus literally at all times?
• How would your connection with God be different if you were burning to hear His voice and obey Him, every moment of every day?

When you have a sold-out spirit to God, miracles happen. Also, that’s when Jesus uses us to do greater works. Look at what Jesus said in John 14:12-14:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” (John 14:12-14).

We have to be filled with God’s power in order to finish the work that He has given us to do. We have to burn for Him, living for Him every day, and standing strong and firm in faith and obedience. When you live that way, Jesus fills you with His anointing and power–and His glory will rest upon you.

What would your life look like if you were only aware of Jesus, His love, and His power? What would be different in your life if the raw, unhindered power of God flowed through you at all times?

Can you imagine walking down the street and having your very shadow heal people?

That’s what happened to Peter, who lived sold-out for Jesus. Check out what it says in Acts chapter 5:

“And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed” (Acts 5:12-16 NKJV).

And what if your very skin contained so much healing power that anything that touches you heals others?

That’s what happened to Paul in Acts 19:

“And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them” (Acts 19:11-12 NKJV).

How did these people get this kind of power?

They loved God. They loved Jesus with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. And they went after Him, serving Him with single-minded purpose and focus. They poured out their all for Jesus, knowing that they were losing nothing–because He poured so much more back into them.

They simply lived sold-out for Jesus. They learned to become empty of self, so that the power of God could flow through them unhindered.

Friend, do you want a sold-out spirit for Jesus like that?

I know I do. I try to live this way, but we all need Jesus’ help to do it. We all need His grace to help us seek Him, and to fill us with His power. And the way we get that help is to pray (and, of course, to obey after we pray).

To help you pray, I wrote a short sample prayer below.

This prayer is only a starting point; please fill in your own words, desires, and the cries of your own heart as you pray. But if you want to be empty of self, living with a spirit that is completely sold out to Jesus, you can begin by praying the prayer below with me.

Let’s pray as follows:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, I love You so much. Thank You for being my Father. Thank You for adopting me and making me Your child. Thank You for using me in this world to tell people about You. You are so good and kind to me, and I praise You for that.

O Heavenly Father, I desire to live completely sold-out to You.

You deserve all my desire and all my affections. You deserve all my labor and attentions. And you certainly deserve all my obedience and allegiance.

Lord God, in Jesus’ name, would You help me with this? Would You help me live sold-out to You? I really need Your help even with this, for without You I can do nothing.

Therefore, Father, in Jesus’ name, I humbly ask:

• Please give me a sold-out spirit for You.
• Please let me be so consumed with love for You that I never even think of self or flesh, but that I burn for You at all times.
• Please flow through me unhindered to share Your love and goodness with this world.
• Please help me to constantly be the hands and feet of Jesus, ministering Your love, healing, grace, compassion, and glory to others.
• Please grant me the tongue of the learned, that I may speak a word in due season to those who are weary. Waken my ear morning by morning to hear as a disciple!
• Please fill me with Your dunamis, miracle-working power, love, and anointing at all times.
• Help me to see things and people the way You see them, and use me to do even greater works than Jesus did, all for Your glory.

Lord, I want to be so on fire for You that I am constantly living for You, and You only!

Please help me to think of You always. Help me to set my eyes and keep them set on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Please, let Your Spirit roar through me at all times, so that I have no thought of flesh or selfish interests, but only of You.

I love You, Jesus. I want to live sold-out for You. I want to be a conduit of Your love, power, and grace on the earth. Please, Father, in Jesus’ name, grant me a sold-out spirit, and help me finish all the works You have given me to do.

Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”

Beloved, we each have to maintain our heart for God every single day.

However, if you will ask the Lord to help you live sold-out to Him, He will answer. Few prayers could be more pleasing to Him, for He desires all of our allegiance–and all of our love.

I’ll leave you with this verse:

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 NKJV).

Walking humbly with God requires giving Him all of our love and attention, for that is what His Word commands. And if we humbly ask Him for His help to walk with Him, He will help us. He will give you the strength and power to live for Him every day with a sold-out spirit of love for Jesus.
