If You Feel Like You’re Going To Die Inside, Take Communion

If You Feel Like You're Going To Die Take Communion | by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

Have you ever been ugly-crying so hard you gasp for breath? Or been alone and all you could do was wail and keen before God, like we talked about in On Keening from the Crucible?

Yeah. Me too.

But here’s the thing:

Our precious Jesus gives us keys. He has not left us alone, and His pathway to healing is described in His Word if we look for it.

I know it’s hard to look for it sometimes. Like we talked about yesterday in If You Feel Like You’re Going to Die, sometimes your heart can hurt so bad that you can’t look up without help–Papa’s help.

But beloved, if you’re in that place right now:

I want to share a key to not dying; a key to actually coming alive again that Holy Spirit showed me just recently out of His Word.

Here’s the story:

I was really hurting and didn’t know if I would make it through. Didn’t see any way to recover from what had happened. I saw zero hope.

But I’m certainly not going to stop living, and I refuse to live in misery. So, obviously, I have to find a way to heal. 🙂

I am determined that I am going to HAVE AND WALK IN every. single. bit of victory that Jesus Christ poured out His blood for me to have:

  • Even when things don’t look good.
  • Even when I’m upset.
  • Even when I’m sad.
  • Even if bad things happen; the cat vomits on the floor; I have a bad day at work; or if my world looks like it’s ending. Whatever.

Doesn’t matter. I’m going to pursue Christ, and I’m going to walk in victory, even if that victory means walking all the way to the cross.

So. Yeah. About that cross.

Jesus did not hang on that cross for no reason. He hung on that cross and poured out His blood–every drop of blood He had–to give you and me His resurrection life.

The Body and Blood of Jesus can heal you no matter where it hurts. The Lord's Supper, Communion, the Eucharist heals. | by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

Physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and every other way. You and I can have the resurrection life Jesus purchased for us with His blood. And that life doesn’t start in Heaven. That resurrection life starts now.

So if you feel like you’re going to die inside, what can you do right now to find healing for your heart?

Here’s a beautiful key the Lord showed me just recently: Take communion. Yes, at home … or wherever you are. Every single day while you’re getting through what you’re going through.

I found this key in John chapter 6, where Jesus said:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world” (John 6:47-51).

Wow! Did you catch that? Jesus said that if you eat of This Bread–meaning Him–you will not die and will, in fact, live forever.

And it gets better. Watch what He said when He expounded further, in John 6:53-58:

Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.’

LOOK at what Jesus just told us in this passage:

  • He is the food that gives you life.
  • If you eat of Him, you will not die.
  • He is actually living food.
  • If you eat of Him, you will LIVE forever.
  • You must eat His flesh AND DRINK HIS BLOOD. (Are you starting to see the sacrament of communion here?)
  • Eating His flesh and drinking His blood will put life in you.
  • Eating His flesh and drinking His blood actually results in you abiding in Jesus, and Him in you.
  • If you feed on Him, you will live because of Him–because Life itself is in Him.

WOW!

I read that passage recently when I was feeling very dead inside. Like I said above, I saw no hope. Zero.

But as I read Jesus’ words in this passage, I saw that His promises here were an absolute perfect fit for my need. I felt like I was going to die, and Jesus literally says here, verbatim, that if I eat His flesh and drink His blood, that I would not die.

Eating His flesh and drinking His blood is a thing we can actually do. I’m not going to debate whether it’s symbolic or literal; different churches teach different things on that, and it’s not something we need to debate here. Believe what you want to believe about that.

But this holy memorial–Communion, the Holy Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper–is a sacrament Jesus actually commanded us to observe at the Last Supper, right before He went to the cross.

And I suddenly realized, I’ll bet He had a lot more reasons for telling us that than we ever thought He did.

So, I took communion.

I happened to have a box of portable communion elements on hand, so I used those. If I had not had them, I would have used any other kind of unleavened bread–such as Triscuit crackers–and grape juice. (If you’re a wine drinker and want to take wine, as some churches do, knock yourself out. I just personally prefer grape juice.)

And when I took communion, sitting on the floor of my spare bedroom/office, I felt the peace and comfort of God surround me like a blanket.

Instantly. Tangibly. Peace.

I could have cried. Actually, I think I did. 🙂 And I took communion again the next day. And the next.

And it’s helping. Every day, I feel myself getting better. And I feel it the instant I take communion.

And when I first saw this in Scripture, I shared this passage with some of you, my partners, via Facebook, and some of you told me you felt a peace and sweet relief too. Brothers and sisters, I think we’re onto something. 🙂

So I’m going to keep taking communion. Often. Every day, while I’m healing from some tough times I’ve been through this year.

And I encourage you to do so as well.

Beloved, if you feel like you’re dying inside, take communion.

Because you have Jesus’ personal promise that if you will eat His flesh and drink His blood, you will NOT DIE.

So how do you do it?

Get bread and wine / crackers and grape juice / communion elements. Sit down with the Lord. Do this soberly; it’s a serious thing. Remember the words of 1 Corinthians 11:23-29:

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’

In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body” (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).

Recommended resource: I personally use prefilled communion elements because they are so portable. You don’t have to pour the juice; there are no dishes to wash; and the elements don’t spoil or go stale for a long time. If you’d like to pick up a box on Amazon, here’s a great set of prefilled communion cups and wafers. The wafers are under plastic on top of each cup, and they are unleavened. They work great, and the taste is just fine.

Because God’s Word tells us to examine ourselves, when you sit down to take communion, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any sin in your heart.

If He shows you something, confess it to God and receive His forgiveness.

Then take a moment to ponder Jesus’ sacrifice for you:

  • Ponder on the fact that this is His blood, poured out for you, that forgave your sins.
  • Think about how this is His flesh, broken for you, from which you receive healing.
  • Meditate for a moment on the fact that His blood poured out, and His body broken, purchased the comfort and removal of all of your sorrows; saved you from death; and granted you eternal life.
  • Thank Him for what He did for you.
  • Pray, and tell Him that you believe His promise that as you eat His flesh and drink His blood, you will not die and He will give you life.
  • Thank Him that you will abide in Him as a result of eating His body and drinking His blood.
  • Ask Him to revive your spirit, fill you with life again, comfort you, and help you.

Then, eat the bread and drink the wine / grape juice.

I believe you will notice the difference.

Beloved, if you feel like you’re going to die inside, take communion.

You have our Lord’s personal promise to give you life if you will. If you will take communion, you shall not die but live, and you will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Is the Holy Spirit speaking to you as you read? Does this message stir your spirit? Have you already taken communion and noticed a difference? If so, please leave a comment below! I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Jaime thank you for this blog. I know that I was sent hear by God. You are a teacher. I have learnt alot from you. My sister and I discussed this last week. She started taking communion last week I am beginning today. Thank you for explaining everything.

    1. June, you are so welcome. It’s my pleasure. Thank you for reading! I pray you and your sister would both be encouraged and strengthened as you take the blood and body of our Lord.

  2. Ok, so you couldn’t know that I fasted yesterday. After the fast something as simple as leaving a dress on the dogs cage threw me into an angry outburst. The dog ate the dress. I was so down trodden after the outburst. I threw myself at the cross and prayed the our father’s prayer because I didn’t know what to say. I read the Word, fast, pray, and try to be obedient and one incident and I loss all peace over a dress. I did pray, cry hysterically, and say maybe I am not cut out for this journey and call he has placed on my life. Today I feel guilty but know God has forgiven me. It my flaws I have a problem excepting not his love. I tendencies to fall or prone to outburst without no warning. I am gonna to try weekly communion at first.

    1. Crystal, I’m sorry that happened but please don’t beat yourself up. It’s just warfare–which happens sometimes when you fast. The enemy comes against you to try to steal your joy, but that’s all it is. It’s not who you are. It just means this is an opportunity for you to let Papa help you stay in peace. But heightened warfare often happens with fasting if the enemy thinks he can derail you. Just don’t let him, and eventually fasting will be much easier. 🙂 I pray you would be comforted and find peace in the Holy Spirit today. You are on the right track, sister. Don’t give up.

Jaime I have the cranberry juice can I use that or it need to be grape juice?

    1. I do not know the answer to that question. I have heard of people using whatever they have on hand, with no ill consequences. I believe God looks at our heart more than He does the composition of the liquid we drink. You’ll just need to work it out between you and God, though, as I cannot advise.

This is a great way to bring healing, I have even done it by proxy with prayers for others. A lot of people are afraid to take it unworthily, but Jesus forgives, He is the only one who made us worthy, even calling us kings and priests, that’s why we can take it at home. I have even used coke zero and crackers when I had nothing else, I know He understands. Thanks,Jaime.

    1. Amen. Jesus Himself was just hanging out in a rented space for the first communion. We can definitely do all these things at home for sure.

  5. Comfort Sajowa says:

    God bless you sis.

  6. Susan Jones says:

I too know that God brought this message to me. I have been dealing with a besetting sin which I kept repenting for but kept going back to. Though I was ashamed for keeping on asking the Lord to forgive me He showed me that there is a place in me that needs healing. I started this yesterday and I believe that the Lord is setting me free! I cannot explain the joy that comes from knowing how He reaches out to each of us, through each of us! How beautiful! Thank you .

    1. Dear Susan, as you focus on Him, He will take away your sin. Remember the words of John the Baptist: “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” He always takes away our sin.

  7. Hello my name is Greg. Jesus came into my heart like 14 years ago and I was transformed from the inside out. Amazing love, forgiveness, acceptance. I fell away and cant get back. I miss Jesus so bad I am so lost and feel I have already died inside. Please help me Lord Jesus I am so sorry. I thought heart break from a woman was bad there is no love like The Father. Jesus you said He was love. I feel I will soon die physicaly without You Lord.

    1. Hi Greg. Jesus has not abandoned you or forsaken you. No matter what you did when you fell away, all you have to do to get right with God is to confess your sins to Him. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If you will confess your sins to Jesus, He will forgive you your sins. He forgives completely and instantly. And if someone or something is telling you or whispering in your ear that He has not forgiven, then that is a lie from Satan. That is a demonic spirit of condemnation speaking to you, but it is a lie.

Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” If you have confessed your sins to Jesus and made Him Lord of your life, then the Bible says you are walking in the Spirit and there is no condemnation to you. You must cling to the truth of God’s Word in order to get free from the enemy’s lies.

Also, ask Jesus to fill you with His Holy Spirit. He will, as soon as you ask. Luke 11:13: “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Please let me know how it goes.

  8. I bless the name of the Holy and one God who led.me to your sit this morning. I had a three days dry fasting few weeks back and it was just impressed in my spirit to break with d holy communion. I have never heard of doing it alone I have only taken in church. But I read the bible and found out we are instructed to have it and no place nor time specification required. So I did it with my children. Since then I found peace, boldness timidity gone, a voice, and the bank loans that I have been paying using borrowed money from friends was paid without borrowing anything. Praise the Lord!

  9. Thank you Jamie ❤️I feel sooo blessed by this blog! I give God all the glory and ask that he bless your life sis ??♥️

  10. Yes, what a blessing this was to read!
Three weeks ago me and my husband started to have communion in our quiet times. The peace is unexplainable! The Holy Spirit warns me not to upset myself when life throws me a curve ball, I take it to Jesus and the peace returns.

  11. Ward Simon says:

I humbly ask for your prayers as I start to receive the Lords Body and Blood.
