Prayer for the Light of the King’s Face

Do you need favor and a fresh infusion of LIFE? Do you need the Lord to water your soul? If so, today’s prayer for the light of the King’s face is for you!

I was reading Proverbs recently when Proverbs 16:15 really stuck out to me. Not only did this verse seem to leap off the page, but it felt like a spiritual deep breath–an infusion of light and hope.

Proverbs 16:15 says this:

“In the light of the king’s face is life, and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain” (Proverbs 16:15 NKJV).

Friend, this verse is important to all of us because all of us need LIFE and FAVOR.

Have you ever felt so dry and weary that you didn’t know how you were going to get through the day? Perhaps you are even feeling that way today. If so, that is when you need a giant infusion of LIFE from the One Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

And favor? We all need favor.

Favor is that unseen force in your life that produces visible results. Favor is when God places something on you that not only brings you His blessing, but which He uses to cause other people to bless you too.

When God gives you favor, things start going your way. Happy surprises seem to jump out at you from behind every bush and tree. Favor makes hard things easy, and impossible things suddenly not only possible, but completed.

Favor is something we all need.

But fortunately, we serve a King–King Jesus–who not only IS Life, but GIVES life too.

Our King, Jesus Christ, IS Life Incarnate. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And the words that He speaks are spirit, and they are life:

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63 NKJV).

Everything about Jesus is life-giving; He gave His own life so that you and I could have life, and have it more abundantly. As John 10:10 says:

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (- Jesus Christ, John 10:10 NKJV).

And in the light of the King’s face is life.

When you take the time to stare at Him–to gaze upon Him, opening your heart, mind, and eyes to adore Him …

… When you magnify Him (which means to look at Him bigger in your viewpoint) …

… When you really focus on Him, taking the trouble and the time to behold His beauty, you will feel the light of His love shining upon you from His beautiful face. And you will receive an infusion of everything that He is, including LIFE, power, joy, love, health, strength, hope, and encouragement.

But let’s also look again at the second half of Proverbs 16:15:

“In the light of the king’s face is life, and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain” (Proverbs 16:15 NKJV).

Not only is there light in Jesus’ face, but also as His beloved child you are the recipient of His favor. You have favor if you have made Jesus Christ your Lord, for that decision to give your life to Him brought you into the family of God:

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him” (1 John 3:1 NKJV).

So God actually adopted you and made you His child when you gave your life to Jesus.

That is tremendous favor! You are now a royal personage; you are a king (yes, even the women) and a priest unto God!

But God’s favor is not just for the heavenly realm. And it impacts more than your identity in Christ.

God’s favor–which is given to you BECAUSE of your identity in Christ–can also be manifest as a force of blessing in everyday life.

You have favor anyway, but you can have MORE favor and more manifestations of it. Why? Because favor is a commodity.

Here’s what I mean by that:

In general (except for the basic level of favor that comes with giving your life to Jesus), when it comes to relating with people, favor can be bought, sold, squandered, used, and so on. You can have higher levels of favor on your life, or you can have lower levels of favor on your life. You can gain more favor or lose the favor you have.

And the favor of God works the same way.

You have a basic, wondrous-indeed level of favor just because God adopted you as His child when you gave your life to Jesus. But you can have even MORE favor, the more you seek Him.

Yes indeed:

• The more you seek after Him and pursue Him with all your heart, the more favor you will have that manifests in your everyday environment.
• The more you obey Him, the more favor you will have in your day-to-day life. Things will start going your way.
• The more you seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, the more “all these things” will be added to you. (See Matthew 6:33.)
• The more you walk in holiness, the more you will see God.
• The more thankful you are, the more you will see miracles, signs, and wonders in your life.
• The more faithful and diligent you become, the more you will prosper.

All of these are blessings God places upon you as signs of His FAVOR. And if we look at Proverbs 16:15 again …

“In the light of the king’s face is life, and his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain” (Proverbs 16:15 NKJV).

… We can see that, when God places His favor upon you, it waters your soul.

The King’s favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.

The latter rain is also mentioned in Joel 2. It is the rain of restoration. It is the rain that brings prosperity. It is the rain that brings a tremendous outpouring of God’s Spirit upon you.

God’s favor is like a cloud of the latter rain. His favor like a cloud of the latter rain washes away all the wrong things and turns them into right things. His favor causes you to take a deep breath and feel well-watered again in body, soul, and spirit.

God’s favor is LIFE for your soul and spirit.

Do you want the King’s favor today? Then pray with me for the light of the King’s face to rest upon you.

Let’s pray for the light of the King’s face as follows:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ name.

Father, thank You for being so good to me. Thank You for adopting me and making me Your child. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me, and thank You for the favor You have placed on my life.

I praise You, Father, for marvelous are all Your works. You do all things well, for You are a fearsome and wondrous God!

Lord God Almighty, I love You so much. And I want to be close to You. I want to know You more, and to experience all Your goodness and kindness.

Jesus, I want to be so close to You, and obey You so well, that You consider me one of Your very best friends. I want that kind of submission and holiness to mark my life, Lord, for You are well-deserving of my whole heart and more.

Therefore, Abba Father, I ask today that You would draw me close to Yourself, to Jesus, and to Your Holy Spirit.

Your Word says that no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them. So please, Abba, draw me close today.

And Lord God, precious Jesus, please: as we draw close, I ask that the light of Your face would shine upon me:

• Let me feel the warmth and the light of Your countenance.
• Help me feel Your presence and Your affection.
• Let Your love and light soak through my weary soul.
• And I pray that I would come alive–and feel that new life–as I stare at You and feel Your light soaking into my eyes, my face, and my whole body, soul, and spirit.

I also ask in Jesus’ name that You would give me favor, Father.

As King of Heaven and earth, Your favor is like a cloud of the latter rain. And I need You, Father. I need You, and Your favor, and Your cloud of the latter rain on my soul!

So Abba Father, I humbly ask today in Jesus’ name:

• Let Your favor rest upon me and my life.
• Help me to please You in everything, so that I am favorable to You. Change my heart and convict me as much as You need to to make me blessable to the fullest extent possible.
• And let Your favor be manifest to me today like the cloud of the latter rain. Water my soul and spirit; help me to be, and to feel, refreshed, well-watered, full of Your Spirit, and full of Your power today in every way.

Abba Father, in the light of Your face is life. Your favor is like the cloud of the latter rain.

Please let the light of Your face shine upon me today, and help me feel it. I ask that Your favor like the cloud of the latter rain would be manifest in my life today in every way, visible and invisible; tangible and intangible.

Thank You, Father. Thank You, Lord Jesus. Thank You, Holy Spirit. I bow before You and honor You. Let my life be pleasing and acceptable in Your sight, I pray. And I’ll give You all the praise.

Thank You. In Jesus’ holy and precious name I pray, amen and amen.”
