If so, then now is the time to pray for God to establish you on solid ground again, and–even though He didn’t steal it–to give you your life back.
But before we get to the sample prayer, let me encourage you a moment. First, know this:
God did not take anything good from you.
The enemy might have stolen some things from you, but if the thing you are missing was a good thing, then God didn’t take it. We known this from John 10:10:
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (- Jesus Christ, John 10:10 NKJV).
So, don’t be mad at God, beloved. You may feel like you are on a shelf right now, but if God is allowing it, it’s ultimately in your best interest. And if you are going through something that ISN’T God–such as any circumstance caused by sin–then for sure God did not cause this, but He will work it out for your good.
As we read in Romans 8:28:
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NKJV).
But sometimes, we get in a place where we feel like our “life” has been stolen from us because we’re just in a place of chaos.
For example:
- Maybe you’re experiencing tons of change right now: new job or lack of job, new place you’re living, new relationship, new city or loss of an old job, home, or friend group.
- Maybe you feel like your life is chaotic because things have just piled up on you: home repairs, pending bills you need to pray, or even health challenges (or all of the above at once!).
- Maybe you feel spiritually “off,” where suddenly (even after years of faithfulness!) you’re having a hard time seeking God, or paying attention when you study the Word, or getting out of bed in the morning for your special prayer time.
Whatever it is that has you in a tailspin, Jesus can help you today.
He is the Father of the fatherless, the Friend to the friendless, the Helper of the helpless, and the Rescuer of the brokenhearted. He is God Who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure:
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13 NKJV).
And He is doing a good and faithful work in your heart right now, even if you can’t feel it and where He is. He promises us so in Philippians 1:6:
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6 NKJV).
And friend, if you’re in a tailspin, Jesus sees you, and He knows your pain, and He cares.

And He is ready and willing right now to hear your cry and lift you up out of the pit you’re in, set you on a firm place, and establish your comings and your goings. Look at His beautiful words in Psalm 40:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth—praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:1-3 NKJV).
But friend, we have to pray for this help in order to receive this help. Additionally, we have to pray in faith, knowing that God is good, and that He will help us:
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:2-8 NKJV).
And I know that sometimes it’s easy to think that God has abandoned you, but don’t give into that lie from the enemy.
God has not abandoned you. He would NEVER abandon you, for He is faithful and true–and He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you:
“And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV).
So, whatever is going on right now, don’t give up hope. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith:
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV).
And let Him work this situation out for your good, even when His work happens over a process sometimes. God is still with you, no matter what you’re going through.
And if you will work with Him, hearing His voice and taking steps to walk in His ways and obey Him, and keep your eyes on Him–not on self-pity–then He will lift you right up out of that miry clay, set your feet upon a rock, and establish your comings and goings.

God is good, beloved. And He loves you. He is right there with you in your pain, in your fear, in your uncertainty and worry and cares. And He is ready, willing, and able to release all of His power, strength, and grace–as well as His heavenly forces and earthly forces too–to help you.
Are you ready to pray and ask God to give you your life back, and to help you get into a healthy, solid place and routine again?
If so, pray this with me:
“Father God, I come to You in Jesus’ name.
Abba Father, thank You for loving me and hearing my prayer. Thank You for taking care of me always, even when I don’t feel like You are.
I know You are always here with me, and that You are always faithful and true. You are working all things out for my good right now, even when I feel like nothing is going my way. Thank You for that, Abba.
Thank You for Your kindness and goodness in sustaining my life, and in giving me Your grace, which is sufficient for me–even when I have no strength of my own.
Abba Father, I have a special petition for you today.
Lord, You know I have been derailed in life for a long time.
Things have not been going my way, and they have felt too overwhelming for me to handle. I’m out of my routine; I don’t have a healthy routine at all. Things I used to count on are no longer with me, and I don’t know which way is up or down sometimes.
Abba Father, I’ve been in a tailspin–and I want to get out of it. But, I need Your help to do it. I can’t rescue myself from this maelstrom of life events and circumstances, but You can.
O Holy Father, Your Word says that You lift me UP out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock, establishing my comings and my goings. Thank You for that. And today, I am calling on Your name to do exactly what You promised.
O Heavenly Father, I want my life back.

I don’t want the same thing back, with the same problems; I want a better and healed version of my life. But I desire to feel like myself again, and to not have life circumstances beating me down.
I want to feel like I am happening to life, going on the offensive and acting proactively, instead of drowning under stress and loose ends that need to be tied up and completed.
Lord, I know that the most important key in all of this is to seek You first, so please help me to get alone with You, in prayer and in Your Word, every single day–first thing. Please help me to give You first place in my life, which is exactly what You deserve. And please give me wisdom, guidance, and instruction as I commune with You.
Teach me, Father; for I do not know what to do or where to go unless You tell me. I am completely Yours, and I am utterly dependent on You.
But after that, Father, I pray today in Jesus’ name:
- Please help me get organized and make a plan.
- Please help me take small steps, even one step each day, to walk out of this darkness and into the bright light.
- Please give me courage to be proactive in all of my situations.
- Please change my heart and my habits in any way that they need to be changed.
- Please provide for all my needs according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus–not meagerly, but abundantly and effusively, with the “over” and the “extra” coming to me every single day.
- Please make me a better steward today than I was yesterday, and a better steward tomorrow than I was today. Help me to take careful care of absolutely everything in my life.
- Please help me to downsize my schedule wherever You feel it needs to be downsized, until it’s right-sized.
- Please help me to declutter the objects around me. Anything that does not serve me and honor You, please help me to get rid of it–even if it’s a good thing that I just don’t need anymore.
- And please help me not to condemn myself if these things don’t happen all at once. Help me to realize that it’s a process sometimes, and that each step each day is still progress.
- Help me to celebrate the wins, Lord, and keep on being faithful to You!
Father God, I don’t want to live in chaos anymore. I want a quiet, calm, and orderly life.
I’m asking You to help me get there, Father. Give me my life back. I know You didn’t steal it, but circumstances have been beating me up for far too long. However, I choose to believe that, in all these things, I am more than a conqueror through You Who loved me and washed me and made me Your Own.
Therefore, Father, I pray:
- Please open the windows of Heaven for me and pour out so much blessing that I can’t even contain it all.
- Rebuke the devourer for my sake, Lord.
- Bless all the work of my hands.
- Help me to feel Your love and Your courage and Your grace, strength, and mercy.
- Please come in with Your tangible mercy and grace, along with the ministry of Your Holy Spirit and Your angels, and rescue me.
- Help me to find my footing again, and to stand up once again on solid ground.
Thank You, Abba Father. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. I give You all the praise and glory for Who You are, and for all that You have done and continue to do in my life. I choose to believe You, Father; and I thank You for once again setting my feet upon a rock and establishing my comings and my goings.
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen and amen.”
