Today, we are asking God to give us nations for the sake of Christ.

In this simple prayer series, I am sharing one Scripture verse or passage each day. I will also add bullet-point prayer directives you can use to pray through that Scripture.

I won’t be writing out actual prayers, though; I feel the Lord wants you to exercise your prayer muscles by talking to Him right out of your heart!

Our Scripture verse for Day 7 of 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer is Psalm 2:8:

“Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession” (Psalm 2:8).

Remember also that the Great Commission was not simply a commission to win souls, but rather to disciple entire nations:

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).

God’s plan has always been for us to ask for nations, just like it has always been for Jesus to ask for nations.

Why? We are to ask for nations so we can throw them at the feet of Jesus one day, as it says in Isaiah 53:10-12:

“Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:10-12).

One day, in Heaven, Jesus will receive the reward of His suffering.

He will see the fruit of the travail of His soul (as it says in the Amplified Classic version), and He will be satisfied. Why? Because the nations that we have discipled on His behalf, turning them into His disciples, will be thrown at His feet to be His portion and His spoil.

May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering! This is why we are praying and ask for nations today!

I do also have a related podcast that will encourage you to ask God for nations.

It’s Take Your Territory Episode 6, The Zeal Inside of You, and it will encourage you to go after these big things!

Listen to the podcast here after you pray the prayer points below:

And in prayer, ask for nations today as follows:

  • Thank the Father that He has entrusted you with a job to do here on earth for His sake.
  • Thank Him that His grace is sufficient for you, for His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
  • Confess to Him that you are the branch and Jesus is the vine; without Him, you can do nothing. Thank Him for flowing through you today.
  • Praise Him for placing His Spirit inside you; praise Him for the fact that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.
  • Ask Him to flow through you with power and might today.
  • Cry out to Him to give you international vision for His Kingdom.
  • Ask Him to fill you with His zeal; pray that the zeal for His house would eat you up, just as it did Jesus.
  • Ask Him to give you a passion for souls to come into the Kingdom and for people to be discipled.
  • Ask Him to give you entire nations for Jesus.
  • Claim His promise that “Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you” (Isaiah 55:5). Pray that Scripture back to God; ask Him to help you call a nation you do not know, and pray that multiple nations who do not know you would run to you, because of Him, for He has glorified you.
  • Pray for wisdom and divine strategy to take entire nations for His Kingdom.
  • Pray that the Lord would send the Kingdom runners to run alongside you that He knows you will need for your assignment–the people whom He has called to the same purpose, and to whom He has given the same heart.
  • Ask Him to show you the practical steps you need to take in order to disciple entire nations for Jesus.
  • Pray that the Lord would fill you with conviction, motivation, inspiration, boldness, and courage to take entire nations for Him.
  • Pray that He would help you put your hand to the plow and never look back!
  • Ask Him to give you entire nations to disciple for Him so that you can lay them at the feet of Jesus, to be His spoils of war–His inheritance and possession.
  • Pray that God would get your message out to the ends of the earth by His might and by His power.
  • Ask that Jesus would be continually glorified through your efforts!
  • Then, thank Him in advance for doing all these things for you!

Beloved, ask for nations today. This verse is not too big for you.

D.L. Moody was a shoe salesman before he decided to give himself to the work of discipling nations. A shoe salesman! But you know what? He believed that “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him,” and he desired to be that person. And sure enough, he took nations for Christ.

Also, Jonathan Edwards, the preacher of the First Great Awakening, resolved simply to live his life as if God had chosen one person to change the world in his generation–and as if he were that one person. And you know what? God took him and used him to set the world on fire.

God will give you nations today. Ask for nations!

Ask of our Father, and He will give you the nations for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession … all to lay at the feet of Jesus.

Those are the prayer points for Day 7 of 21 More Days of Breakthrough Prayer. Meditate on this Scripture passage and pray all day today for the Lord to move on your behalf without limits.
