If You Feel Like God Has Abandoned You | Encouraging Word by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

What do you do when you feel like God has abandoned you?

Let’s be real: Most people have probably felt that way from time to time. To be perfectly transparent, although I don’t feel like God has abandoned me very often, I DO feel that way right now.

I don’t dwell on it. In fact, I only noticed that I’m feeling that way this morning–hence the reason I am sitting down writing this article. 🙂

But you know what? Even when you feel like God has abandoned you, you have to realize that your feelings are just that–feelings. They are not facts.

Feelings are not truth. They are not even reflections of truth. Feelings are fickle. They are not truth; they are only flesh interacting with circumstances. They bear no truth at all.

The truth is the only thing that is worth dwelling on, even when our feelings feel pretty low. Even if you feel like God has abandoned you, the truth is that He has not.

    God has not abandoned you.

We know this because man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. And therefore, we know that God has not abandoned you–and I know that God has not abandoned me, even though I feel like He has.

You can know that God has not abandoned you because His Word says:

“‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV).

    And also:

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV).

    And then there’s Joshua 1:5:

“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5 NKJV).

    And also:

“‘Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand’” (Isaiah 41:10 NKJV).

There are a lot more Scriptures that reiterate that God will not abandon you; that He has not abandoned you; and that He will never abandon you. (I’m preaching myself happy just writing this.)

Doesn’t that give you the sweetest sense of relief?

See, God is not a man, that He should lie.

Our Father is a good, good Father who loves us. He loves you, and He loves me. He is so obsessed with us that He watches over us day and night. Yes, God watches over you day and night! He could not leave you even if He wanted to; His very nature prevents Him from doing so. He is LOVE, and LOVE cares for the object of love!

So even when bad things happen …

    • When people treat you badly, and you don’t understand …
    • When money isn’t there, and you don’t understand …
    • When you are exhausted, burned out, depleted, confused, uncertain, afraid, or any other tough thing …

    God is still with you.

    He has not forsaken you.

I know it feels like He has. I know that what you are seeing in your circumstances doesn’t match what you see in His Word that things should look like.

But oh, beloved. God is still faithful. He is still with you. We live in a sinful world where people hurt people; where hurting people hurt people; where people disobey God’s commands to help you; and where sometimes God chooses the catalyst of your battle to elevate you to your throne.

I don’t understand it either. But I know that God is good, all the time.

Even when we’re hurting, God is good. When we don’t understand, God is good. When people you thought were your friends turn out not to be your friends, God is good. When even people who are your friends hurt you, God is good.

God is just good, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. I know it feels like He has abandoned you. But beloved, He has not. He never will. He is with you right now, and even though you can’t see it, He is fighting on your behalf.

The situation that hurt you may not work out the way you wish it would. But God will work it out for your good.

The provision you need may not come through today in the way you wish it would–but God will provide, even if He does it a different way.

God is good. He will protect you. He goes before you, behind you, and all about you.

As it says in Psalm 34:7:

“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them” (Psalm 34:7 NKJV).

I don’t know the hows or the whys or the whens, just like you don’t know them either. But if you feel like God has abandoned you today, be encouraged with this Word of God: He will never leave you nor forsake you.

    Love in Jesus,

    Jamie

    1. Thanking God, that He will never abandon us, and this is what I needed to hear today. You know it, but sometimes you can get jolted by the circumstances you are in. I feel as though I’m embarking on a new assignment, and I have some hesitation with it because it’s not the area I normally operate in. God is faithful and true, and this post reminded me that He hasn’t changed. He’s Got Me!

    2. This was a strong word for me Jamie I have been feeling so neglected by God thankyou for this word it has lifted my spirits
