Prayer: Lord, You Are My Portion | by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

Do you feel lonely at all times–like you just don’t have a place or fit in anywhere? If so, this prayer will speak to your heart today with its simple cry to the Father: “Lord, You are my Portion!”

One of the biggest emotional breakthroughs of my life happened years ago when I finally realized that God is my Inheritance and I am His.

At the time, I felt very lonely, rejected, and misunderstood. I didn’t understand why everyone else seemed to fit in with the Body of Christ around me, but I was always the odd one; the strange one.

I never fit in; I stood out–loudly–and people didn’t “get” me. Nobody did. (Very few people still do, but I thank God for the few.) 😉

But one day, the Lord spoke to me from the book of Isaiah about how He formed me to be His own, personal Inheritance.

At the same time, He moved in my heart to accept Him as my personal Inheritance. In other words, not to look for a portion anywhere else, but to be like the Levites who had no inheritance to create farms of their own, but rather served the Lord full-time in their sanctuary cities.

I’ll write more about how you are God’s inheritance later. However, for today, I want to show you that God is YOUR personal inheritance too.

It’s true. Beloved, God is your Portion and your inheritance.

I know it can be difficult and painful not to fit in. I know it is very hard when everybody around you appears to have a portion–a place where they fit in–and you don’t. Friend, I know. And Jesus knows; the Son of Man was homeless and had no place to lay His head while He was here on earth.

But you know what? God is your Portion.

He, Himself, wants to establish a covenant with you today where you see and accept Him as everything you need on the inside. He is your Portion, your Cup (the One who was literally served up to you), and your Inheritance. He is your Shield and your exceeding great Reward.

Lonely? You are not separated from people; you're separated unto God. There is a difference. Prayer: Lord, You Are My Portion | by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

    Psalm 16:5-6 says:

“O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance” (Psalm 16:5-6).

And in Genesis 15:1, the Lord Himself appeared to Abraham (though he was still named “Abram” at that time) and said:

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward'” (Genesis 15:1).

Beloved, going through life without a portion or inheritance of your own can be hard.

However, if you decide today to view God Himself as your very special Portion and Reward …

If you choose to look at your situation and see that God has not separated you from other people, but has rather separated you unto Himself … <== (VERY IMPORTANT!!!) …

If you will accept that you are called to be closer to Him than anyone else, and that when you get that close to Him, there are very few things you can take with you …

Then you will enter a life of soul-level fullness that you never could have even dreamed of before.

And even if you have already entered into this covenant with God, it’s time to renew it.

Life can get you down sometimes. Sometimes we take our eyes off Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Sometimes we forget that He is truly all we need; sometimes we forget to forget those things which are behind and press on toward the high calling to which Christ has called us.

It doesn’t mean we don’t need other people; we still need to dwell in community and unity with the brethren. However, your Portion is still Jesus; and, if you have forgotten that today or set it aside, it’s time to renew your covenant with Christ in this matter today.

If “Lord, You are my portion” is the cry of your heart today, then pray this:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, thank You for loving me. Thank You for drawing me to Yourself through Your Son Jesus, and thank You for making me part of Your family. Thank You for choosing me, electing me, and calling me. Thank You for saving me and filling me with Your Holy Spirit.

Father God, I read in Your Word that You told Abraham that You were his portion and his inheritance. You told Him that You were His ‘exceedingly great reward.

Father, Your Word also says that You are no respecter of persons. If you were Abraham’s shield and exceedingly great reward, You will be mine too.

Father, I feel like I have no portion in this earth.

The places where I should fit in–I don’t. The relationships I desire to have–I don’t have. And there seems to be no place for me in most of the places I go.

Father, I am so grateful for everything You have done for me. You have kept me, guarded me, and preserved me all the days of my life.

But Father, You created me to fit in somewhere. You created me to fit in with Your Body; to be a living, moving part of the Body of Christ–Jesus’ Bride. But I feel like I’m not; there is no room for me.

Dear Heavenly Father God, I can only look to You to solve this.

I have to get all my fulfillment from You, or else I have created an idol for myself. And I don’t wish to do that. So Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name today to ask You to completely fill my heart:

    • Fill up all the places where I desire connection with Your people; You be my portion in that area of my life.
    • Fill up all the areas in my heart where I desire to have a portion or assignment, where there is currently no room for me. Take over my heart and all those desires, and fill them with Yourself.
    • Take over all the places in my heart, body, soul, and spirit in which I long to belong to someone and to belong somewhere. Help me to know that You are the One I belong to, and in Your Presence–in Your bosom–is the place where I belong.

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask that You would manifest Yourself to me as my Portion and my cup.

You are truly all I have, Father. You are the One who created me, and You are He who loves me most. You are the only One who has stuck with me all these years, and You are the only One who loves me truly.

Therefore, Father, I ask that You would help me find my home and satisfaction in You.

You are my shield and my exceeding great reward, Father; so please, be to me my shield and my exceeding great reward in manifestation. Also, Father:

    • Help me to sense Your love, Your presence, and Your affection.
    • Help me to find all my fountains of life in You, and in You alone.
    • Help me to feel perfectly content in Your presence, and to find the fullness of joy that only comes from Your presence.

Father God, Your Word says, “For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light” (Psalm 36:9).

With You is the fountain of life, Heavenly Father. In Your light, I see light. It is You and Your light that make everything all right again, Lord:

    • It is only in Your presence that You make me new.
    • Only in Your manifest, tangible presence do I find comfort.
    • It’s only in Your manifest presence that my worries, sorrows, and cares flee away.
    • Only in Your presence do things become all right again.
    • And it’s only in Your manifest presence that I have hope.

Father, Your word says that Christ in me is my Hope of glory.

So much of this world–and so much of my life–has gone awry in the last few years, Father. I need You to heal me, strengthen me, and restore my life.

I’m asking today, in Jesus’ mighty, powerful, and precious name–and by His blood:

    • that You would show Yourself to me as my Portion and fill me with hope again.
    • Show Yourself to me and fulfill me in all the ways I didn’t even ever know I needed fulfilling.
    • Be to me my Portion and my cup, Father, for You are truly all I have. You really are my Inheritance, and no inheritance could ever be better than You.

Abba Father, I love You so much. I am so grateful to have You in my life.

You are the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. You are He whose ways are perfect. You are the One who takes everything that is wrong and makes it right again, if we will only trust You.

So Father God, in Jesus’ name, I renounce all worldly seeking of fulfillment in places other than You. Please forgive me for seeking fulfillment elsewhere. Please forgive me for seeking to have a portion outside of You.

I don’t always understand why You make ways for other people to have what I see and want, Lord, but You don’t do the same for me.

Nevertheless, I do know that having YOU as my Portion, instead of all those other things, is the absolute best Portion I could ever have. You are the most valuable, most costly Inheritance I could ever receive.

And I thank You, even when I don’t understand, for separating me unto Yourself and allowing me to experience You at this level of intimacy, where You and You alone are my Portion; for I have no other.

Whom have I in Heaven but You, Father? There is none I desire besides You.

Your Word says, in Psalm 73:25-28:

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry. But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all Your works.”

And Father, I echo the Psalmist with these words. I have no one in Heaven but You, Your Son Jesus, and Your Holy Spirit. You are truly the great Desire of my heart.

Lord, I am weak, but You are strong. You have become my strength, and You truly are my Portion forever.

It really IS good for me to draw near to You, Father.

I do trust You. I hurt sometimes when I am rejected on this earth, but I determine to declare all Your works anyway. And with the Psalmist I say, “O God, You are my God; my times are in Your hands” (see Psalm 31:14-15).

So Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that You would manifest Yourself to me as my Shield and my exceeding great Reward today.

Show me what that means in ways I can’t even comprehend yet. Keep me and preserve me throughout the process; protect me and my family and everything that pertains to us.

Shield us from all harm and danger, Father, as my Shield. Please also reward us, for we come to You and we believe that You exist, and that You are the Rewarder of those who diligently seek You.

Father, You are my Portion. Thank You for being my Home when I don’t fit in.

Thank You for being my Portion when I have no other. Thank You for being my Inheritance when I have no other inheritance.

Thank You for being my Home, my Shield, my Strength, and my Stay when I have none but You. And I thank You, Father, in Jesus’ name, for Your unending love and for Your everlasting arms round about me.

Thank You, Father. I yield to You, to be Your inheritance; and I stop trying to get away this day.

I choose right now to stop trying to escape being Your inheritance so that I can be someone else’s inheritance. I belong to You, Father, and You belong to me through the blood of Jesus Christ. Thank You for being my Father, my Portion, my Inheritance, and my Cup.

I love You, Abba Father. You are my Shield and my exceeding great reward.

Lord, You are my portion. I praise You and thank You for Your marvelous generosity and kindness toward me. How great are Your works–how vast is the sum of them. I love You, Abba Father. Please comfort me now, and help me to rest in You.

In Jesus’ holy and precious name I pray, amen and amen.”

    3. Thank you for another tremendous, powerful prayer! I can relate to not fitting in anywhere, even as a child, as I began to grow in the Lord; that also seemed to be the case among my peers, work, or even church. I have always felt that He created me with this in mind so that only He can fill that deep need to belong and therefore go back to my Father always! I needed this reminder today, I am His, and I fit in with Jesus!

And so, I just wanna say THANK you in Yeshuas Name.

May you, Abba, in this special season go on strenghening my inner man – according to the riches of Messiah Yeshuas glory – with power through His spirit, that Messiah may rule and reign on the thorne of my heart by faith till the end, that I may be rooted and grounded in love, strengthened to grasp and tap into the fullness of what are the dimensions horizontally and vertically of my Messiahs work and His awesome bridal gifts. Help me, Abba, to know Messiahs love which surpasses knowledge and that I may be filled with the fullness of the Elohim of Israel., in Yeshuas Name.

Beautiful expressions, Jamie & I relate to many of them.
Perhaps, this unique relationship with The Lord finally explains why I never truly feel edified around other people. I do enjoy sharing special times with family & friends etc, but I know that my constant bond/connection with The Lord’s presence is hard to explain to others although I understand it….
~Again, your post does This SO beautifully❣
      Philia💞🕊Shalom, Always!

    13. Hey Jaime!
Glad to read this prayer! As a single guy, one who has had a long past of hiding in shadows because I was fearful of what others thought, be it through being the biggest celebrity till fourth grade the school shrimp or the way that they treated the neighbor girl for being learning disabled, I’m glad to read this prayer… It’s been difficult for me to find my place I the kingdom, my Dad was sick and most of my relationships were wiped because the clibr of friends that I went to church with but who were in public schools, seemed to only are me down further into the world. I still experienced God but I often was grieved because I fell short of the grace and purity i wished to keep. But God planted a seed deep inside me at a very young age. I have struggled so hard to fit in, and for that reason I really contorted myself in a way out of what I would consider to be normal character acting for myself, but I m recovering because atleast I am choosing to deny the temptation to turn away from God. Looking down that scope of life, and seeing things like, I don’t have a best friend, I don’t have a wife, and feeling judged because a lot of my choices are determined to be made against the ideas I have that others may or seem to carry with them… It’s like the world wants me to act like a man, and that my faith and Bible, or the fact that I just don’t care much for wasting time doing push-ups anymore because it’s something I find more frustration has enveloped into the thought of it, and being alone with nobody to help me build the discipline, that I just have to make God my portion. Ha! God is good! And somehow as I have for the past decade done my best to give him all my time, every moment, forsaking gaming, worldly pleasures, secular music, amd finally putting up or establishing a real guard against people who don’t pursue God, and bring me down with temptations like alcohol and drugs, Jesus has truly been blessing me with answers to prayers, silent prayers, and prayers I have asked outlook. I am someone who has had moments of breakthrough, maybe only in desperation but be that as it may, I am so blessed to have the Lord as my portion! He is going to wonders through me and He already is reveing to me things of His Kingdom, showing me His power, and I have been in love with His glory ever since I got to see it! Thank you for all the hard work you put in, and thank you for your prayers! I appreciate the breakthroughs that are happening for not only me but others that are following you… God bless you!
