Prayer to Leave the Past Behind and Move Forward

Are you ready to leave the past behind and move forward? If so, this prophetic prayer for your future is specifically for you. I believe it’s going to help you move out into uncharted territory and see God make all things new.

In case you feel hesitant about leaving the past behind, know this:

It’s good and right to forget about the past and move forward. After all, the apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 3:13-14:

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

And when you leave the past behind, you are free to reach forward to those things that are ahead.

You do have a goal to be reached. That goal is your calling in God. And you do have a destiny to be won and conquered; that destiny is already finished for you before the foundation of the world, but you still have to pursue Christ in order to see everything He has for you manifest in your life.

If you are ready to leave the past behind and move forward into your destiny in Jesus, pray this prophetic prayer today (and pray it again often!):

“Father God, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, thank You for restoring my joy. It has been so long since I have felt any joy. My heart has been so broken and misused. I have been beaten up, used, neglected, discouraged, and abused. And the darkness felt like it was swallowing me up.

But Father, You stepped in to intervene with Your joy.

You have removed me from the pit of destruction. You have set My feet upon the rock of Your love and safety, and You have established my comings and my goings. You are great, and greatly to be praised. I love You, and I need You, and I thank You for rescuing me.

Abba Father, I desire to walk in Your paths and not go down any path again that looks good to me—but which is not right based on Your opinion. Also, if I try to do something with a pure heart, but it is not Your best for me, would you stop me, Father?

I need You to be like the angel with the flaming sword that turns every way, Lord Jesus, for You are Lord of hosts and You are a great and mighty Victor. You alone know the course of every battle, and You understand when things look and feel hopeless, even though there is always hope in You.

You know and understand what it is like for me, as a human, to be in these battles—for You are my Great High Priest, and You suffered even more than I have.

Father, I know You are taking me into uncharted territory.

Please help me to walk confidently into it, under the covering of Your love. Please help me not to seek things on the earth, but only to seek those things which are above, where You are. Help me to cling and cleave to You, and You only.

In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, I renounce every ungodly influence, idea, covering, hope, goal, desire, relationship, dream, and soul tie. And in the name of Jesus, I send back to its source (washed in the blood of Jesus) every thing and every part of any human person’s heart, soul, spirit, opinion, or anything else that was with me and shouldn’t be.

In the name of Jesus, I also receive back to myself every godly dream, idea, influence, prosperity, blessing, covering, hope, goal, desire, relationship, dream, and everything else that God wants me to have—washed in the blood of Jesus.

Father, I plead the blood of Jesus over my miraculous path forward.

I do not know which way You will send me yet, but You will show me soon. You are showing me right now, even as we speak! Thank You!

Give me wisdom, Father; and help me to prepare, no matter where You are sending me. If it doesn’t look glamorous, help me to be diligent and faithful anyway. Help me to embrace the path YOU have ordained for me, no matter what it looks like—and whether others embrace it or not.

Also, Father, I ask You in Jesus’ name to deliver me and my family (and all those who concern me!) from anything that is NOT Your will for us:

• Keep us on the straight and narrow path.
• Don’t let us turn aside to the right or to the left.
• Help us to hear Your voice, saying, “This is the way; walk in it,” and let us obey You without pause, without error, and without misstep.

Father, Your Word says that my time for blessing is now.

I have had a hard time believing this up to this point, Father, for it was not what I saw with my natural eye. However, Father, You have given me rest from my labors and anxieties. And now, in my rested state, I can see things a lot more clearly.

I see now that You DO want to bless me, Father.

I see that You have NOT abandoned me. You are NOT angry at me. Other people have been angry at me; other people have abandoned me; other people did not want to bless me, Father; but those people were not You!

Father, I admit that I revered those other people so much that I felt anything they did or said was reflecting what You think, do, and say about me; but that is NOT TRUE! And I renounce every agreement with the enemy’s lies right now, in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, please forgive me for doubting You and questioning Your heart.

You have been with me the whole time, but I didn’t see it. You could have freed me long ago, but I did not wait for you. Please forgive me, Father. I repent, and I ask Your forgiveness, in the name of Jesus.

Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit anew and afresh, and wash me clean in the blood of Jesus. Thank You, Abba Father.

Lord God, as we enter this new season, I pray for those who have despitefully used me and persecuted me.

I ask in the name of Jesus that You would bless them indeed, and enlarge their territories. I pray that Your hand would be with them; that You would keep them from evil; and that they would not cause pain. I ask in Jesus’ name that all the desires of their righteous hearts would be fulfilled, and that they would fulfill all Your purpose.

But Father, I ask also for REWARD in this season.

Your Word says that You will reward me openly when I go into my closet, shut the door, and pray to my Father who sees in secret. So Father, since I am doing that right now, I ask right now that You would reward me OPENLY.

And Father God, also, Your Word says again that You will reward me openly when I fast as unto You only. You have seen my fasting and my prayers, Father, so I ask also that You would grant me the open rewards that You have promised as a result of my fasting.

I ask also that huge blessings, rewards, and inheritances would come to me right and left in this season—and that nothing would hinder them.

I pray that the things I have only dreamed of and heard about—and even things about which I have not yet heard—would come to me now:

• I ask that the harvest for which I have sown so long would come to me now.
• I claim Your promise that says “Give, and it will come back to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over shall men give into your bosom” (Luke 6:38).
• Lord, I have outdone myself in giving these many years. I have not yet received a proportional harvest, though, Father; so I ask in Jesus’ name that the massive harvest, to the extent You have promised, would come to me and everything that pertains to me NOW.

Abba Father, You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

Thank You for loving me and taking care of me. Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path; thank you for illuminating my darkness. Thank You for bringing me the light of life, and thank You again so much for shining Your light into my heart and making every darkness flee.

Father, You are raising me up:

• You are healing my heart.
• You have taken the lid off me.
• You are elevating me and positioning me.
• You are rewarding me for seeking You, even though You deserve to be sought even if You did not offer any rewards!
• You are restoring old anointings.
• You are working things out for my good right now.
• You have given me hope and life again after so long a season of battling with death.

And I thank You, for You are good, and Your mercy endures forever.

Lord, I recall Your Word to mind, and therefore I have hope.

It is through Your mercies that I am not consumed. Your compassions fail not; they are new to me every morning. Thank You! GREAT is Your faithfulness, Father.

You have been so faithful to me, Lord, and I thank You all the day long. You truly are my Portion, and my hope is in You. (Lamentations 3:21-24.)

Father, I have waited on You a long time.

And as I have waited, You have kept Your promise and You are being good to me. Thank You. You are good to my soul. You are healing me—body, soul, and spirit. Thank You. I hope and wait quietly for Your salvation, Father, for You are leading me and I will watch only for You. (Lamentations 3:25-26.)

I love You, Abba Father. I love You, Lord Jesus. I love You, Holy Spirit. Make me pleasing and acceptable in Your sight, my Strength and my Redeemer. Thank You. In Jesus’ mighty and holy name I pray, amen.”
