Prayer to Stand Firm in Faith (If Your Faith Is Being Shaken)

Is your faith being shaken right now? If so, I wanted to share a sample prayer to stand firm in faith that you can lift up to the Lord today.

But first, be encouraged, friend: we all go through crises of faith at times.

Even Jesus talked about this. In Luke 22:31-32, Jesus said to Peter:

“And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren” (Luke 22:31-32 NKJV).

When Jesus said this, He knew that Simon Peter was going to deny Him three times before the rooster crowed. He knew that Peter’s faith would be shaken.

However, despite the shaking that He knew would come, Jesus prayed that Peter’s faith would not fail. He knew that Peter himself was going to fail in the moment of temptation, but He prayed to the Father that Peter’s faith would not fail at the end.

And, it didn’t.

Peter did yield to temptation and sin against God by denying Jesus. However, he repented, and Jesus restored him. Jesus then charged Peter to shepherd the church of God. And although that was a very trying, embarrassing, and even humiliating time for Peter, ultimately Jesus’ prayer was answered: Peter’s faith, ultimately and in the long run, did not fail.

And beloved, from time to time, the enemy tempts every one of us and tries to shake us off the Vine that is Jesus.

Remember that, without Jesus, you and I are nothing and can do nothing. We have to abide in Jesus the Vine in faith. Our life is only in Him. As Jesus taught us in John 15:1-3:

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you“ (John 15:1-3, emphasis mine).

And also, later on in John 15:5:

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NKJV).

We have to abide in Jesus in order to have life. But the enemy doesn’t like it when we abide in Jesus. Therefore, sometimes, the enemy tries to shake our faith. And the funny thing is that God sometimes lets him.

Remember that Job went through all that he went through because the enemy asked God for permission to steal from, kill, and destroy him.

And God told him that he could take the things that Job had, but that he could not kill Job. Crazy, huh? And in the end, even after all that sifting and trying, Job said this:

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. how my heart yearns within me!” (Job 19:25-27 NKJV).

It is not unusual to be shaken. God does allow the enemy to shake us sometimes.

And SOMETIMES, God even does the shaking Himself.

We read about this in Hebrews 12:25-29:

“See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, ‘Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.’ Now this, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:25-29, emphases mine).

When God does the shaking, He shakes the things that can be removed, so that only the things which cannot be shaken may remain. And beloved, that process hurts. It hurts because we think that we ought not to have to endure shaking such as that, but yet Jesus said:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NKJV).

And it hurts because our flesh doesn’t like it one bit. Even though we know in our spirit that God will take care of us, and that He is good, and that He will never harm us, His refining fire is still hot and it still burns.

Does this sound familiar to you at all?

Are you trapped in God’s refining fire today? Is your faith being severely tested and shaken? If so, beloved, only God can keep you. He is the One who is holding onto you, and only He can bring you through. But, HE WILL … if you will just ask Him to.

And “asking Him to” requires prayer.

Beloved, if your faith is being shaken right now, pray this prayer to stand firm in faith, and ask Jesus to help you:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, You are everything to me. You are good, and Your mercy endures forever. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me like You do. Thank You for being faithful to me. I know I can depend on You, and I praise You for that.

Holy Father, I have nothing in and of myself–in my own fleshly strength.

As Paul said in Romans 7:18, in my flesh dwells no good thing. And Jesus said that He is the Vine, and I am a branch that must cling to Him.

I can do nothing without You, and I am nothing without You. But I thank You that Jesus does live inside me, and You are in Jesus; so, You live inside me too. You are the only Life Source I have, but You do burn within me at all times, preserving me and keeping me alive.

So You see, Abba, You are truly my All In All. I have no life, no hope, and no help outside of You–but I thank You that You dwell within me, and You will never leave me nor forsake me.

Holy Father, You have been good to me for so long that I thought my faith would never be shaken.

You have seen me through so many things that I thought I would always cling to You in staunch, stalwart faith. I really have come too far with You to look back.

However, Father, even though my spirit knows You, and my mind knows that I must cling to You, my feelings and emotions are letting me down right now. My feelings and emotions feel broken and sad, like my heart is sick because of hope deferred. And my faith is being shaken like it’s never been shaken before.

Therefore, Abba Father, in Jesus’ name, I throw myself at Your feet and beg for Your help today.

O holy Father, here at Your feet and at the throne of Your grace, I humbly implore You:

• Please keep me as the apple of Your eye, and hide me under the shadow of Your wings.
• I need help to keep my mind on You, so I beg for Your assistance today. Please help my mind be stayed on You, for I do trust You. And I know that You will keep me in perfect peace as my mind stays focused on You.
• Please strengthen me in my inner man.
• I feel like my inner man is falling apart under the stress and pressure of enemy attacks; of hope deferred; and of unanswered prayers when the things I have asked You for have not yet come into visible manifestation. I trust You, Father, and I know I will see the things I have asked You for. But I need You to strengthen me for the fight, for my heart and soul and emotions just want to give up.
• Please don’t let me give up. Remove the desire to quit as far from me as the east is from the west.
• Please show Yourself to me today as my Glory, and the Lifter of my head. Please lift my head today and comfort me.
• And I ask today in Jesus’ name that my faith WOULD NOT FAIL!

Abba Father, where my faith is weak, please strengthen it. Where my will is weak, please shore it up. Where my heart is in despair, please cup my heart in Your hands and heal it from all the hope deferred, which has made my heart sick.

And Abba, I humbly ask in Jesus’ name that You would also bring me my desires fulfilled.

Your Word says that hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. Please, Holy Father, in Jesus’ name, I ask that You would bring me my desires fulfilled:

• Bring all the things I have been asking You for–including miracles, signs, wonders, and breakthroughs–into visible manifestation. Your Word says that I gained these things positionally the moment that I asked You for them, but I know that sometimes it takes time for them to show up in my life. However, Father, I do ask in Jesus’ name that You would bring me these desires fulfilled in a tangible way, so that I can see them, experience them, and reap the benefits of them.
• While I’m waiting, please help me to stand firm in faith–today and always.
• Help me to set my mind and keep it set on things above, where Christ is, seated at Your right hand.
• I pray that my faith would not be shaken, and that the enemy would not be able to sift me like wheat.
• And again, I pray above all that my faith would not fail, and that I would not disappoint You in anything, nor sin against You!

Abba Father, thus is the cry of my heart to You.

You know me, Father, and You know that I am nothing without You. I have nothing without You:

• You and You alone are my God.
• You are all I have in this world; and whom have I in Heaven but You? You are everything to me.
• You and You alone can keep me.
• And only You can bring me into Your Kingdom at the end of days, having run the race well and having fought the good fight.

I need You right now, Abba Father. Please help me in all these areas and more.

Defend me and protect me. Keep me stable and fixed under Your shadow. Please ward off and fend off every evil thing that is trying to steal, kill, and destroy. Accelerate every answer to prayer that You can possibly accelerate without harming me, and without harming Your best plans for my life. And help me to stand firm in faith, fully pleasing You in all things.

Thank You, Holy Father. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen and amen.”

Beloved, do you need God’s help to stand firm in faith today?

If so, cry out to God. Pour out your heart to Him; let Him know everything that concerns you. Yes, He already sees and knows, but His Word says that He gives us great peace when we tell Him about it anyway.

Dear, precious believer, even if your faith is being rocked today, God is still love. He still loves you, and He is holding you in the palm of His hand. Cast your cares upon the Lord, and He will sustain you!
