Worship and Praise God Anyway

Next LIVE webinar: Healing from the Trauma of Poverty|April 3, 2024

Beloved, are you going through a really hard time right now? If so, I have a timely word from the Lord that is for YOU: It’s time to worship and praise God anyway. Read on for the story!

Worship and Praise God Anyway | Encouraging Word by Jamie Rohrbaugh | FromHisPresence.com

Here’s my object lesson from the Lord this morning:

As I am writing this, I am in excruciating pain. Six days ago, I managed to mess up my shoulder (rotator cuff area), and I have been in bad pain with extremely limited use of my arm ever since.

This morning, I woke up in worse pain than I have been in the last few days. As I went through my morning routine, I noticed only one position for my arm that didn’t hurt: holding it up and folded across my body, as if in a sling.

But then, as I continued moving through my morning, I got to the time when I am supposed to exercise. At first, I tried walking while holding my arm down by my side, very still, but that was agony. I moved my arm around and discovered one more position that didn’t hurt–and only one: Holding my arm up level with my shoulder, hand lifted, in a position of praise.

And immediately, Holy Spirit wrecked me …

Because I could either be in a sling or I could praise. Those were my only two options.

This is a really powerful object lesson because, in life, we have the same two options. We can either baby our flesh, putting ourselves into a “sling” where we constantly have to be coddled and allow ourselves to become immobile …

… Or we can praise God.

Those are the only two positions that don’t hurt.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the positions are equal.

Putting my arm in a sling is not going to help things in the long run. I need to get this arm fixed and healed, not just keep it in a sling because it’s been injured. And if we use this illustration to look at all of life, you can see that the same thing applies.

When you’ve been hurt or injured in any way–emotionally, spiritually, physically, relationally, financially, etc.–you can hide yourself away in a “sling,” but that’s not going to solve the problem in and of itself. A healing has to occur at some point and you need to become functional again.

Yes, sometimes that healing might occur simply through rest, like a mild arm injury that only needs rest to heal. Sure, I can see that.

However, most of the time, if your injury is so bad as to need a “sling,” proverbially or literally, you need intervention.

If your injury has caused you great pain or immobilized you, you need healing. And you’re going to have to go after it.

First, you (and I!) are going to have to go to the “doctor.”

That means getting the help you need, in whatever way. You might need prayer from your friends; maybe that will be enough. Or, maybe you need to go get some godly, Biblical counsel from a good, Christian counselor. Maybe you need to read all you can about spiritual healing and invest in your own deliverance classes.

Secondly, we are going to have to make the effort to go through the healing process.

Way too many people feel entitled–like they should get everything they want, including all the healing, deliverance, restoration they want–with no effort on their part.

With all the love in the world, I will tell you the truth here: not only is the entitlement mentality a lie from the enemy, but it is also people’s way of remaining a victim in their own hearts and minds because:

  1. They often like the attention that victimhood brings them; and
  2. They like having an excuse not to change.

But you know what? Jesus said in Matthew 11:12 that the violent take the Kingdom by force.

The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, joy, and power. It’s “on earth as it is in Heaven.” That means if you want righteousness, peace, joy, and power in your life …

… If you want your life on earth to look just like Heaven …

… Then you’re going to have to rise up and take it by force:

  • You’re going to have to make the effort.
  • You’re going to have to work, and work hard.
  • You’re going to have to learn about deliverance, and how to optimize your marriage, and how to walk in love, and spiritual warfare, and budgeting, and starting your own business, and walking in your spiritual authority, and inner healing, and all the things that are part of walking in victory spiritually, physically, financially, relationally, etc.
  • And then you’re going to have to carry out what you learn.

We can’t sit around and whine about how much we hurt, developing or embracing some kind of entitlement mentality that says we deserve for everybody to feel sorry for us.

No, we have to go after our healing, deciding to believe that by the stripes of Jesus we WERE healed (1 Peter 2:24), and that we’re not going to sit around and feel entitled and sorry for ourselves anymore.

Y’all, I’m being real with you because I love you, and I want you to be free and healed. Are you still with me? I hope you are.

And thirdly, if we’re going to walk in victory, we have to decide to worship.

This morning, putting my arm in a sling-position didn’t hurt … but it wouldn’t be good for me ultimately. I can’t walk around in a sling for the rest of my life; I need to be healed. And while I’m walking through the healing process, I can choose to move that arm from the “coddling, injured, sling” position into the praise position …

… Because the praise position is the only other position that doesn’t hurt.

And the same is true in all of life:

The position of praise is the only position that will get us through our days, months, and years with VICTORY.

Praise brings you into the manifest presence of God. Remember that we “enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.” In the presence of God is fullness of joy; it’s where we belong, and it’s where we receive everything we need.

Therefore, as we’re walking through the healing process …

… As you’re going through your day, doing what you have to do …

Why wouldn’t you choose to praise today, instead of to hide in your sling?

I know it hurts. I get that. I have been through so many things in my life, you truly have no idea unless you’ve heard all of my video classes on inner healing–and even then, I didn’t talk about everything. But I know what pain and agony and rejection and sickness and insert tons of bad stuff here feel like.

I know it hurts. Beloved, my heart goes out to you if you’re sick or hurting or in need in any way.

But God is for you.

God loves you. Jesus Christ died for you. His blood heals, saves, delivers, and restores. His love is for you; His heart beats for you. He ever lives to make intercession for you.

And He is worthy to be praised, even as we walk through His healing process.

He is worthy to be praised, even if we don’t feel like praising.

He is worthy to be worshipped and adored, even if we don’t feel like taking our eyes off our own selves and setting our eyes upon Him.

He is still worthy of our worship and praise.

His worthiness does not diminish in accordance with our feelings or anything else. He is worthy of all blessing and honor and glory and power and dominion and might and strength, and He is worthy of your complete and total adoration–and of mine.

He is worthy.

Will you give Him the honor, praise, adoration, and worship He deserves today?

We can either be pitiful or powerful, but we can’t be both. PRAISE, however, takes us out of the place of “pitiful” and into the place of His power. Praise takes us from a place of pain to a place of healing. Praise moves us into the very throne room of God, and PRAISE is what God deserves.

At all times.

In all seasons.

Even when your arm hurts, and you have lots of things going on that require your full attention, and you really don’t have time for this injury; help me, Jesus. (In my case.)

And for you …

Even when your heart hurts.

Even when your finances hurt.

Even when you don’t know what to do, how to do, where to go, or how to get there.

No matter what, praise is your weapon.

Will you get out your praise today and let the high praise of God be in your mouth? Leave a comment below if so!

The year was 2001 the year of “9/11.” What a time and a season! I was up bright and early and watching the Benny Hinn Show. I always thoroughly enjoyed the Praises and the Worship of our Almighty God! And yes I can still hear (at some point in those years) the beautiful Judy Jacobs jazzy tones belting out “THE DAYS OF ELIJAH.” WOW!!!
Anyway on this particular morning I too had some pain (not as bad as yours Jamie) in my left arm when I lifted it up. I definitely couldn’t straighten it right up. It was always slightly bent to avoid the pain. Without thinking the Worship went up and instantly so did BOTH MY ARMS! OH!!! I remember thinking MY ARM IS STRAIGHT and THE PAIN HAS GONE! I FELT IT CLICK in the joint! I stood there STRETCHING IT, CHECKING IT this way and that thinking IS THIS MY IMAGINATION???
