The Bible says that God is the God of all comfort, and that He will minister to you at the point of your need. Yes; God Himself will help you, even when your heart is broken. His compassion is toward you right now, and His heart is fiercely devoted to you.

You are His beloved child, and He will not leave you alone–not now or at any other time.

Read the words of comfort in these beautiful passages:

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18 NKJV).

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NKJV, emphasis mine).

“The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:2-3 NKJV).

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26 KJV).

“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, emphasis mine).

Beloved, God wants to comfort you so much right now that He actually NAMED Himself after His desire to comfort you.

God did not take away your loved one; this sinful world, full of sickness, disease, old age, and people who make bad decisions did that. BUT, God IS your Comforter. He wants to reach out to you right now and touch you deeply with His healing hand of love.

And He wants to comfort you so much that He actually names Himself your “Comforter” and “The God of all comfort.”

Beloved, God sees your every tear.

He feels every squeeze of your heart; every welling up of panic and heartbreak. He catches every breath that you gasp out in your agony.

But God loves you. His perfect love casts out fear, and He wants to comfort you in your affliction.

After all, God knows how you feel.

He Himself had to watch His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, die a death that Jesus did not deserve. It was agonizing for Him. It was excruciating. But He did it; He sacrificed His Son Jesus so that He would not have to sacrifice you and me too on the slave market of sin.

Amazingly, the grave could not hold Jesus down. Jesus didn’t deserve to die, so He got up three days later–healthy, hale, and very much alive.

Yes, Jesus lives again. He IS both the Resurrection and the Life. And Jesus still lives to this day–both in the heart of those who love Him and also seated at the right hand of the Father, where He ever lives to make intercession for us.

Beloved, if you give your heart to Jesus, making Jesus your Savior and Lord, then even if you pass away, you will rise again.

The same goes for your loved one. If you have lost a loved one who knew and claimed Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, you will see them again. They will live forever in Heaven.

And if you also have given your heart to Jesus, making Him your Savior and Lord, then you will get to enjoy your loved one’s company forever in Heaven one day.

Beloved, the Word of God about the Resurrection will comfort you if you will hear the heart of God.

If your loved one knew Jesus as their Lord, and if you do too, you will see them again in Heaven. Death cannot hold them; the grave has no victory over them. Physical resurrection and eternal life are their portion, and their spirit is right now with Jesus in Heaven.

But O beloved, do you need words to pray to get through today if you’ve lost a loved one?

Pray this simple prayer with me today:

    “Dear Heavenly Father God,

I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Father God, thank You for hearing me pray today. I know Your eyes are on me, and I believe You will help me when I ask.

Father God, You gave up Your only Son for me.

I can’t imagine what You went through. But I have just lost my ______ whom I loved so much. I was not prepared to lose a loved one–especially not them, Lord. And oh Father, I don’t know how to go on without them.

Dear Father in Heaven, I need Your help today. I can’t go on in this life without You. I can’t survive without my dear one whom I loved and still love. I will always love them, Lord. They will always be a part of me, bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.

Dear God, please comfort me now. I cannot survive without You.

Please reach down deep into my heart and release the healing balm of Your physical, tangible love and comfort into my jagged wounds. My heart is broken, God; it cannot go on without You. Please take hold of all the pieces of my heart and pull them back together.

Mend me, Lord. Put my heart back together so it can go on beating another day, another month, another year. Let my heart beat with a will to live again, even without my loved one. Let my lungs breathe in Your breath and Your Spirit, with a will to inhale and exhale, another day.

O Father God, I ask in Jesus’ name today that Your divine Holy Spirit would comfort me.

Put all my tears in Your bottle. Let me feel Your presence and Your affection. Let me feel Your love washing over me in wave after wave after wave.

Take away the pain of loss that is crippling and immobilizing to me, Lord. Help me move again, breathe again, Abba Father, because I have to.

Father, I don’t know how You will heal my heart so that I want to go on without my loved one, but I know You can. Even if I can’t see my life without them, Father, I am willing to be made willing. Please help me.

Comfort me in this tribulation, Father.

This loss has been life-shattering to me and my family. Our hearts are broken, but Your Spirit is the Comforter. You are the One who binds up my wounds.

So please, Lord, heal my broken heart. Bind up my wounds. Comfort me in this tribulation, and help me to remember that I will see them again.

Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”

And if your loved one knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior, continue praying this:

“Father God, thank You that Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. Thank You that I will see my loved one again.

I look forward to that day, Lord. Please help me to remember that “the dead in Christ will rise first,” and “Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

Comfort me with these words, Abba Father. Heal my heart today.

Give me the will to live and somehow breathe another breath and put my feet in front of the other and go throughout my day. Heal and restore my life, I ask, in Jesus’ name.

Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”

O dear friend, if you have just lost a loved one, I pray you will know that Jesus loves you.

God the Father loves you. And His precious Holy Spirit, who is also God Himself, loves you and wants to comfort you right now.

Will you let Him? He is with you right now, an ever-present help in trouble.

Pause right now and let Him minister to you, for the God of all comfort wants to bind up your wounds and heal your broken heart this very moment!

Thank you so much for this, Jamie. Once again, Jamie, your post came right on time.

In January I had to say goodbye to my cat, Zaggy. He was my baby boy and I had him for 12 years.

Just 24 hours ago, I had to say goodbye to his sister and my baby girl, Oreo, who just celebrated her 13th birthday on May 5th. She was my last fur baby. Needless to say, my home is now pretty still and quiet.

Right now, though I count these things all in joy as God is using these endings to foster my new beginnings into His will and blessings for me, I still tearfully mourn and grieve for them. Thank you for sending this out again, and thank you Lord for your word and comfort.

    13. I lost my fiance May 18th of last year, this has been very hard to accept for not only myself but our daughter we had together. Thank you for the Prayer, your thoughts as well as your concern.

    14. Hi Jamie,
Thank you for sending this prayer. I just lost a my very good friend in february. My heart breaks still and there was so much drama with friends who no longer are my friends. I blame myself that hes gone. I feel like if i were still by his side he would still be here. But this prayer helps the hurt and brings comfort. This month in 2018 i lost my mom, and i will always miss her. Thank you again for creating a beautiful comforting prayer. Lord bless you always for all the wonderful things you do.

    15. Catherine says:

My husband died 18 days ago. He was my best friend and soul mate for over 42 years. He went so fast, we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to each other.
He was a faithful believer, so I know where he is. But my heart is broken and shattered. I’ve never been anything else as an adult besides his wife and business partner. Now I have to build our business without him.
I go through my days on autopilot, in too much pain to pray for things I cared about before. All the hopes and dreams we had were together, and they’re all gone forever.
I don’t sleep well. Insomnia has often made it difficult, and it’s worse now, on top of his cat who won’t leave me alone all night. I know the cat doesn’t understand, but it’s just making things worse.
I’m an artist, and I have no interest whatsoever in my art right now. I sob at church during worship. My adult kids try to help, and my daughter and her husband and family live with me (they have been living with us for 3 years), but they fight each other constantly. My daughter’s husband is a nominal believer with strange ideas and the kids aren’t believers at all. The father and kids love horror movies and demonic games and other evil things that I don’t want in my house.
My financial situation is a mess. My husband didn’t do our taxes for the past two years prior to his death. I won’t have any income until his retirement annuity kicks over to me with my survivor income, but that will take weeks or even months. Same with his life insurance. My daughter and her husband don’t financially contribute, except for food money, and he takes a lot of it in his soda habit. He also smokes outside, and I am very allergic to it.

    16. Thanks Jamie for the timely word. Lost our 11-month-old son 3 months ago, it’s been unbearable.

      1. Eunice, I am so very sorry for your unspeakable loss. I am praying for you.
        Love in Jesus,
        Jamie

    17. Maribeth Bieber says:

Hi Jamie, I am blessed for your powerful prayer for our loss. I lost my best friend, my Angel, my sweet Mother 2 years ago in June. I still feel for a few seconds I am going to call her and remember she is with the Lord. My daddy is with the Lord also and miss him dearly also.
There is one thing I want to know and I need to know for a good reason. I only heard one other person believe this since I have been saved. That whe we die before Jesus comes that we are asleep until the rest of us meet the dead in Christ in the air. What do you think. I don’t think they are asleep waiting in heaven to him to come and get the rest of us.
      Thank you,
      Maribeth

    18. My family lost a cousin this past September on his dad’s birthday in a truck accident. He was only 21. It has been difficult for us all. I have found that I Peter 5:10 is also a comforting verse. “After you have suffered a little while, the God of all comfort–who has called you into His eternal glory in Messiah–will Himself restore, support, strengthen and establish you.” Hope this helps others also.

    19. We just lost my great grandmother today ,,thank you Jamie for the comforting and couraging words I really needed them ,I know that God will help us in this tribulation
